Hello,
it seems that Live don't treat unison note correctly, sending two unison notes the second interrupts the first, and if you route two MIDI tracks (unisons can be useful for multiple grain stream on the same note on granular devices for example, or evolving synth or sampler tracks).
This is also normally possible with lots of plugins using the sustain CC64 when implemented, but I have the impression that just Ableton Live makes impossible to send multiple unison notes, is that confirmed?
Thanks,
Alessandro
impossible to play unison note in live MIDI tracks
Re: impossible to play unison note in live MIDI tracks
This is a good topic. Especially with MPE now being supported. I’m curious about the answer.
Re: impossible to play unison note in live MIDI tracks
I've honestly never heard of using two same notes at the same time, as it's physically impossible on a keyboard. I'm pretty sure it's not possible inside live but that's a super specific use case; as I didn't even know soft synths could support it. I'd suggest making a max for live tool to repeat your note on message. you cold also route two midi tracks with the same clip to the first.ratox wrote: ↑Wed Mar 01, 2023 2:36 pmHello,

Re: impossible to play unison note in live MIDI tracks
In MPE you can do it for sure, as each new note press is a different ‘channel’. And given that each has its own pitch and expression modulation, you can do some fun weird things by pressing the same note, holding it, dragging it to make room, and pressing it again with another finger, and yeah. Drones, detuning, unison etc. This kind of possibility should definitely be expected to be recordable in a midi clip. I don’t know if it can be or not. It might be as simple as flipping on MPE, it might not be supported. So yeah, I’m intrigued but haven’t gotten to testing the possibilities.grrrz wrote: ↑Wed Mar 01, 2023 7:36 pmI've honestly never heard of using two same notes at the same time, as it's physically impossible on a keyboard. Edit: this also gives me an idea for a Feature Request on a more grand scheme. One that may have already been accomplished on other competing daws.
Re: impossible to play unison note in live MIDI tracks
Until then, maybe you could program a long release time in your synth as a workaround to get overlapping instances of the same note/grain.
