Automate Return tracks in Session view?

Post by laurentius » Wed Apr 12, 2023 12:32 pm

Can I automate devices/fx racks on Return tracks inside Session view? I need different time-divisions on my return-delay channels for different scenes within my live set. Is that possible?

No. Use an Audio track with dummy clips in between.

I think you can do it using Max for Live and/or ClyphX Pro by setting up different chains for each of your FX and then selecting the relevant chain using clips in a MIDI channel but chapelier fou knows way more than me about this stuff so I could be talking bollocks.

Theres a free device thats part of the Modular Series LE TWO, it's called Return and does exactly what you're looking for, you place it on an audio track, and use envelopes in clips to control devices on a return track...

You can get your hands on it by signing up at https://isotonikstudios.com/isotonik-friday-subclub/

Cheers

How do I control the time division of my Echo-Return track though from any audio channel/dummy clip?

What I meant is that you can simply route a return track to an audio track.
Leave your return track empty and put your effects in the audio track.

You can map the time division to a macro and then use MIDI clips to change that macro. You can then also MIDImap a controller to that macro.
If you only want certain time divisions you can set up chains for each one you want and then use MIDI clips or a controller to select the relevant chain.

I mapped the Macro for that to my Midi controller already. But there are some tunes where I need to automate it. I just don't get how I could map that macro to a Midi clip (which is another channel obviously).

You would be able to do it in Max For Live. There may already be a device available, or you could customise chapelier fou’s excellent “le grand duc”.

Seriously just route your return track to a dedicated audio track.

Yep,
probably the "cleanest" solution. Still not as clean as it should/could ;-)

Thanks anyway!
