Hi all,
When i started making music i was using fruityloops and then reason. With both of these programs, once I created an initial drum pattern, I could create breakdowns and variations live by simply muting and soloing different tracks in the drum machine. This method utilised the fact that muting and soloing tracks didn't cut sounds immediately, but instead allowed each currently active sample to play out before cutting. This allowed me to make drum breakdowns in an intuitive way, live. Is there any way of accomplishing this in ableton?
Many thanks,
P

Separate the “midi” track from the “instrument” track. Route the first to the other. Mute the midi track to create breaks.

Otherwise i should have made a M4L midi mute somewhere. Super easy to do.

Session View can do that, you only need to load the MIDI parts in one or more tracks and set them to Legato mode, then maybe add one empty MIDI Clip to play the "mute" parts.
You can also load in multiple Tracks and just use 0 (zero) to disable Clips, and again you can always load a mute Clip to play the "mute" part.
Non-realtime you can use Take Lanes, just create Take Lanes and drop the MIDI parts.
