Newbie Q: Auto Fade out when manually triggered

Post by vsmith1 » Tue Oct 11, 2005 2:33 pm

I have a long audio clip, I want to be able to manually trigger the track to fade out with a pre-defined fade out envelope. I cannot know in advance when I want the fade out to begin.

This is for a theatre setting, where the audio clip is a piece of background music or ambient environmental sounds (eg trees, waves, etc.) The clip will be triggered by me and then when I can see that the actors are ready I want to fade out the sounds and have the ability to trigger the next sound effect or music eg by using Follow Actions.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Vince

you could write a midi clip, with your pre defined fade envelope, and just trigger that.

I saw this and downloaded the first tutorial - you have the audio clip and the envelope in the same track so that you trigger the track. This means that the envelope is triggered at the same time as the clip - this means that it always happens at the same time.

Can you explain a little further how I might accomplish what I want?

Thanks
Vince

Well. I also posted this in that thread http://users.telenet.be/Vayner/Modulati ... Sounds.zip

It contains various of these tricks in one big matrix.
Look at the volume chopping clips.

to put it simply - two audio tracks - one containing the clip you want to fade, and the second track loaded with dummy-clips with the relevant clip envelope, for instance a 4-bar fade out. Now, set the output of the first track to the input of the second. The second track should be set to no input and monitor ON. Now you can launch the fade on the second track and it will automate the level of the first track. For "normal" operation just put in a track with a normal -0db volume clip envelope.

Thanks for the explanation - I got confused briefly between the clip volume and the mixer volume envelopes.
