Push 2: How to get out of scale mode?

Hi all, I bought a used Push 2 yesterday and I'm trying to figure out how to get out of scale mode.
I loaded up a Battery kit but the Push still displays the scale I set for the instrument on the other track and I have to select the correct octave to play the drum sounds and then it skips every other sound, i.e. pad 1 sound 1, pad 2 sound 3, pad 3 sound 5 and so on and I can't get it to hit at full velocity no matter how hard I hit the pads. How do I change this?

Just press the Scale button again?

No I tried that already but that just switches between "track view" (not sure if that's what it's called) and the scale selection screen. I did figure out that setting the layout to Sequent and changing from In Key to Chromatic makes things a little more workable but I'm hoping there's a far better way than this.

Press scale.. and look on the display where you can select the scales .. and specially look to the left lower corner on your push screen And Push da button !

Build a drum rack with external instrument plug-ins directed at battery. Save that with battery into a group to save as a template.

Doh, I misunderstood what the OP is asking. Yes, this is the way, just press the Chromatic button in the lower left corner.

So I came across a video that explained how to set it up. You open a drum rack and drag Battery onto the C1 pad then open the I/O section and set Receive to all notes. From there it's like Hellnegative wrote, group it and save as a preset. This way it's just a drum rack and uses the 16 pads on the bottom left of the Push. For some reason if you just drag Battery onto a MIDI track Ableton treats it like a melodic instrument, perhaps that's because you can also use a MIDI keyboard to play the drum notes but that didn't really register until now
