Hi there,
Am very keen to add the new Push 3 Standalone to my live setup but have a few questions for users who are familiar with the MIDI possibilities.
Currently I use as an Elektron Octatrack as the brain of my setup (band situation, drums/bass/guitar etc.). I mainly use it as a steady clock, a MIDI sequencer and the occasional backing samples, working with gradual tempo changes and changing time signatures within songs. Although it is rock solid, the workflow to adjust things is just too complex for me (importing MIDI clips, changing song order in live sets etc). I miss the flexibility of Ableton -- I initially had to adjust my Ableton way of working to the Octatrack -- so the P3S sounds exactly like what I need.
I've been keeping track of people's experiences and although I initially believed it to contain all the Ableton features I would need, a few questions arose:
A few specific features I would need:
Resolution of tempo encoder
I understand there is a tempo encoder. How gradually can you change the BPM? Can you easily do micro adjustments (for instance, scrolling from 120.0 to 120.9 BPM without accidentally jump to 150 BPM or so).
Time signature and BPM changes in a clip:
Am aware that you currently can not set/edit this on the device itself. However, if saved in the .als project on Ableton Desktop, does the P3S adjust the global tempo and time signature if the clip is fired?
Program changes
Am aware that you currently can not set/edit this on the device itself. Does it however send out Program Change messages to external MIDI devices if you have them saved in the .als project on Ableton Desktop? This last one is very important for me. I need to be able to switch to the right presets of my external gear within specific parts of a song, so if anyone can share their experience doing Program Changes with the P3S that would help me out a lot.
MIDI Clock out
I understand there's (currently) no MIDI Clock sync in. That's a bummer, but as I would use the P3S as brain it shouldn't be a dealbreaker for me. I do however have the experience with Ableton Live that there's quite a bit of BPM drift when listing to it as a master clock. Instead of having the BPM being a steady 120 BPM it would often show up on listening devices as jumping between 119.8 and 120.2. Does anyone have good experience when using the P3S as a master clock, say for external (beat synced) delays and synths that have internal arpeggiators?
Would be very grateful if someone could shed some light on this.
Thanks!

Re: P3S MIDI capabilities
The generated clock is jittery. Every single computer like device with Intel or AMD processors will have jitter. Only the devices which generate and use the midi clock on a microcontroller can have very low jitter.

hold shift button while turning the tempo knob and you will adjust the tempo by .1 bpm increments
