Connecting MIDI devices to Push 3 via USB hub (standalone)

Post by ffont » Sat Jul 01, 2023 10:34 pm

Hi,

I'm trying to use a USB hub to connect 4 MIDI devices to Push 3 standalone (2 synths, 2 controllers) and I can't get it to work. The hub is powered and works fine in a computer, but when connected to the Push 3 USB A port it does not work as expected. If connecting the devices directly to the Push 3 port then they work as expected (but of course only one at a time). The USB hub is probably low quality and I guess that is why it might not be working (although it does work with a computer). I would be happy to get a new hub if I'm sure it works as expected with Push 3. So... did anyone experience similar issues? Is this somehow fixed with any beta version not yet released to public? If you got a USB hub working as expected, which model are you using?

Thanks a lot!!!!

Hi again,
Just a quick update, I tried connecting a USB midi interface which also has USB ports and it worked as expected. I suspect the problem was a lower quality USB hub.

I use a usb3 7 port powered hub, can confirm it works with 7 or more things plugged in with the push. The usb ethernet adapter i use has 3 extra usb ports (which also work). Mostly it handles usb really well.

No worries, its just a cheapy from amazon, one you can get same day.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07 ... UTF8&psc=1

To be honest i have 2 of these and a different 10 port hub, they all work.
I always get powered hubs so launchpads and such dont steal all the power.
Usb midi hasnt been to bad with standalone, nice being able to see the device with its name instead of remembering what channel its on.
The push will sometimes stop working with midi, i dont think its related to the hub, just the midi implementation falling over.

Ugh I just learned this the hard way too. Going to try a powered hub. I will say for a device that is so pricy this is a definite missed opportunity. Not to mention it takes in plenty of power. I hope it is something they can address via a software update in the future given there is plenty of power and an actual computer inside.

Its not a missed opportunity because it does work with loads of hubs.
