Hi everyone! I have what might be a silly question but I'm confused about resampling. I didn't know Ableton had this feature until recently and I don't think I understand in what instances I should use it. Very often I will make a new track and change it's input to another track and I'm sure I'm not using the right words but in my head I think of it as writing the track to save CPU and for creative things like if I want to cut off the sound completely including the reverb for a stop or something along those lines.
Why would I use the resample option? My understanding that the track receives audio of everything that is active while set to resampling. How is this different from setting it to Master? You could still mute and solo whatever you need and the Master track would be the same as the resample, right? I guess I just get confused when there's so many different options to achieve the same results, this just seems particularly redundant. My weird preference seems to be to make groups and then just setting the group as the new track's input but I understand why that wouldn't be ideal. What am I missing?
Thanks!

Re: Resampling
Routing from Master can cause a pretty nasty feedback loop, Resampling auto-disables the track's output to Master, it is much safer.
And it saves the steps of having to change the output from Master (to avoid the feedback), then later the step of changing back the output to Master to hear what your recorded (if you only have one pair of speakers).
EDIT:
- It auto-disables the Sends and output to Master when you record.
- It only needs "arm" to record, you don't need to touch In/Auto/Off.
- It auto-reenables the Sends and output to Master when you playback whatever you recorded.
It is genius.

Re: Resampling
The only issue people need to be aware of when using RESAMPLING, is to turn off all fx on your master output. If you have an Eq, Compressor and a Limiter on your mixes master output, then when you RESAMPLE you will be printing to audio the sounds running through the master output. When you then play back what you have rendered from RESAMPLING it will be going back through a Master output Eq, Compressor and Limiter for a 2nd time. [This is where a lot of people may be finding feedback issues !].
Maybe it would be a good idea if RESAMPLING incorporated an automatic method off ignoring any FX on the master output.
