im always in search of good methods for recreating traditional asian instruments, esp. erhu and koto.
i used to know a good trick for faking a shakuhachi on a guitar but i forgot the GD tuning....
anyway, ive got umm..wtf is it called...aw bloody hell..oh right, Swarplug.its the Indian music VSTi...i dont have a need for iNDIAN instruments as im not talvin singh, but i still thought it was damn cool. came with appropriate midi files too. anyway point being, the tonal and scale structures work different for a lot of traditional eastern music that doesnt rely on bach for its tone division model. its good learning material.
so anyway, if anyone has any good tips or recommended VSTis, pass em on please.
Shi-shi eh!

shakuhachi..... is not........ chinese................
but I get the drift....
check out this lib... it's not the cheapest, but it's great (everything I've heard or used from Spectrasonics is top-flight). The complete library is recommended...

You could try using soundfonts. load sfz (or whatever its called, free soundfont vst) and then go to
http://www.sf2midi.com/
and do a search for the instruments you need. There is a shakuhachi, I looked, but I didn't get around to loading it and seeing how good it was.
