Midi Monitor displays wrong MIDI Channel for notes, but not CCs
On 3 different keyboard/controllers, MIDI Monitor shows all different channels for each note played. If I turn a knob or mod wheel, those messages all show up as Channel 1, which is correct, but just playing notes each note shows a different MIDI channel. I checked MidiOx and it correctly sees each keyboard's notes on Channel 1.
Does it have anything to do with the blue hand icon? I don't know what it does, but it seems new. I think this all happened when I got an Akai APC25, but disconnecting that doesn't fix the issue.
Anyone know what's causing this? Thanks.

Re: Midi Monitor displays wrong MIDI Channel for notes, but not CCs
If this is the default Max4Live Midi Monitor in Live 11 (which I'm guessing it is) then I believe it's because it's assigning each note to a different Midi channel due to MPE even though the notes received are on Midi channel 1, which is a bit annoying. There's no way of switching this functionality off.
It's also a bit buggy as I've read that it drops CC messages if they are received too quickly:

I wouldn't rely on it if I was you. There should be an alternative Midi Monitor in the M4L Essentials pack if you have access to download that, or you could try this one:

Re: Midi Monitor displays wrong MIDI Channel for notes, but not CCs
Thanks for the reply. I'm using Live 11 Standard's stock MIDI monitor, which actually used to work fine. Not sure what I did to affect that, but I recently added a second Native Instruments keyboard and a couple of Akai controllers, so I'm guessing one or more of those is related. Kind of a shame this doesn't work, but I will look for a workaround that's more stable. Thanks again.
Re: Midi Monitor displays wrong MIDI Channel for notes, but not CCs
Yeah the stock Midi Monitor in Live 11 Standard is the MaxForLive one (you get it under special license with standard even if you don't have MaxForLive). I'm pretty sure adding keyboards or controllers wouldn't have caused this issue, it's just an issue with the Midi Monitor. If it did work previously, it probably changed in an update rather than being caused by adding controllers. I get the same note reassigning going on from that Midi Monitor with no controllers plugged in. Unfortunately if you don't have Suite, or a MaxForLive license, those other options I mentioned previously won't work.

That's how MPE works, it uses all the 16 MIDI channels and has a voice allocation protocol/algorithm, nothing to do with the MIDI Monitor device or even Live.

A-ha! I see the "MPE" in the Midi Monitor title bar. Nothing in my MIDI preferences Ports section has MPE checked, but I think the Komplete Kontrol keyboards are MPE capable and Live shows both in the Control Surface section. Is there a way to turn it on and off?
Re: Midi Monitor displays wrong MIDI Channel for notes, but not CCs
There's no way of turning the MPE functionality of the Midi Monitor off (I'm sure I did mention that previously
). The only option is an alternative Midi Monitor.

Ha. So you did, but that was before I even remembered what MPE was... (Old school here.)
Ok, thanks for the help guys or gals.

No worries. To be fair, Ableton should really include a non MPE Midi monitor as standard (or at least have the ability to turn MPE off). This current one isn't a true monitor if it's altering the Midi data it receives.

I hope they do because I checked out some of the available plugins and none of them are as nice as the Ableton monitor.
