This occured to me when I was having trouble with the RAM button bug which has now been fixed (thanks guys!).
The RAM button works beautifully to speed up processing and GUI redraw for clips. This is really great, but what is not great is that as a user I have to bother to decided which clips are loaded into RAM or not. I'm of the opinion that memory management for performance gains should be handled by the OS and the software, not the user.
I'd like to get to the bottom of how and why people even use the RAM button in production or for djing. Please let us know how you use it.
Personally, I've been using it to speed up my zoom function while mixing two clips (full length tracks) in dj mixes. The speed difference between not using RAM and using RAM is huge and of course the faster, the better. HOWEVER, it is a waste of time for me to have to click the RAM button when I want to load or unload a clip. What I'd like is the option, perhaps in the preference/defaults/clip defaults section, to have Live automatically load clips that I am working with or zooming in on into RAM to increase performance automatically.
I guess that the old manual way of loading should remain, but I don't really have any reasons so I'd like some other users to make a case for why manually loading clips is useful.
