External pedal midi mapping

Post by l000m » Fri Sep 01, 2023 11:49 pm

Hi all,

I've been unsuccessfully trying to get an external midi pedal to trigger certain actions in the Push 3, and I'm wondering if anyone has had better luck mapping a pedal to Push 3 functions.

I'm using a morningstar mc6, which usually gets along great with my studio gear.

I'm not aware that you can midi map directly on Push 3 (please tell me I'm an idiot if there's a way to do this), so I've been midi mapping the mc6 pedal in Ableton desktop and then loading the project back up on the Push. So far, the mappings don't seem to carry over.

On Push, I really want to map (i) the start of specific scenes (i.e., button 1 triggers start of scene 1, button 2 triggers scene 2, etc.) and (ii) session record. On Ableton desktop it works flawlessly -- both midi cc from the mc6 and keystrokes from the mc6 trigger the appropriate Ableton actions.

When I load the same project back on the Push (after mapping) and plug in the mc6, I get nothing -- keystroke mapping and cc mapping seem to have been erased. Midi input on the Push for the mc6 is enabled - track and remote.

Anyone have better luck doing something like this? What am I missing?

Thanks everyone. Love the Push 3, but I'd like to figure this out so I can live loop more efficiently.

Got the idea on midi map workaround from synth seeker: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deJmf8y ... ynthSeeker

EDIT to add: When I load the project back in Ableton desktop after the Push, the keystroke commands still work. The midi cc commands seem to be preserved, but they don't work -- I have to remap the cc commands in the same way to have them trigger Ableton actions. Weird.

When you do your mappings on Live desktop, are you plugging your controller via P3's midi input or via another interface?
If the latter, I'll try to use Push's input instead.

Hey there,

Did you find a solution to this? I'm trying to do just that, it doesn't seem that there are any choices in the setup/preferences.

Thank you!

jur-- Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately, plugging the MC6 directly into the Push while mapping on Ableton desktop did not do the trick.

AlexisCu - For now, I'm using my Push in control mode when I'm using the midi pedal. I'm hopeful that a firmware update will allow for mapping on the Push 3 in standalone, but I'm tethered to my computer until then, or until I figure a workaround.
