P3C: Monophonic aftertouch hard/glitchy to trigger

Post by rgarner » Fri Sep 22, 2023 4:37 pm

If I start up Drift in MPE mode and select 808 Pure, for example, and strike a pad at medium velocity and then press harder for aftertouch, it's pretty smooth and nice and modulates the filter just fine.

However, I've got a few synths that only respond to channel pressure, so I switch to monophonic.

If I try the same action again in Drift, aftertouch won't trigger on further downward pressure until I back off the pressure and reapply. I can't get it anything like smooth, it's all over the place. Worse, if I release the pad, I get a stream of Channel Pressure data artefacting the sound of any synth with a release phase. MIDI Monitor sees it as a couple of dozen decreasing Channel Pressure values starting at 40 and working down to zero, and that's absolutely destroying this Cascadia patch with modulated resonance and a long release time I've got going.

I don't recall this being a problem before and I've recently updated to 11.3.11. Are other people's monophonic synths working ok? Have raised with support, but thought I'd ask here in case anyone else is seeing it. I don't know of another setting I might have altered to cause it.

You could try keeping P3 in MPE/Poly AT, but load an instance of MPE Control before your synth. In its Pressure tab, it has an option to convert PolyAT to monoAT (you need to expand the device with the little arrow at the bottom right of the GUI to access this option).
Let us know if that helps.

Hi [jur], I ended up restarting the whole machine in case it was a MIDI driver issue and now it's only happening every sixth note or so instead of every note.

But I like your solution a *lot* better, because it means I can just save a preset with this in it for every monosynth I load up that takes channel pressure and never have to visit the settings to take it out of MPE.

Thanks.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but did you ever get a resolution for this issue from Support?

I have the same issue with mono aftertouch on my Push 3 Controller and I have raised it with Support who say that it hasn't been reported before.
