[SOLVED] Push 3s + Beatstep Pro

Post by wesslan_2049 » Sat Sep 23, 2023 11:54 am

/// Solved, my Beatstep Pro works fine with Push 3 (standalone) 1.1.11 - below is the unchanged og post ///

tl;dr - Push 3 is merging two MIDI channels against my will, messing up the MIDI signals to two units of external gear. Help?

Greetings Push 3 owners!
I'm currently running this simple patch/setup:
Push 3 (standalone) with i/o:
- MIDI in: USB Beatstep Pro
- MIDI out: TRS -> MIDI in TD3 and MIDI out/through -> MIDI in Korg Volca Beats
- Audio in 1 <- Korg Volca Beats
- Audio in 2 <- TD-3
Further routing described at the bottom of this post.

=The good=
I can play fine as long as I only want to use one of the external instruments at a time, when only one track is armed. Playing sequencer or pads on Beatstep Pro is fine, as well as playing on Push 3 pads. Hearing only the armed instrument, the other will not sound. Sounds great. :)

=The unfortunate=
However, with both the external instruments tracks armed, both instruments play a messed up merged combination of the two MIDI channels used.
  • Eg - when plaing Kick and Snare - they sound great, however TD-3 plays bass notes equivalent to the Kick and Snare pads!
  • So when triggering the Kick drum (or other drum voice) on Volca Beats using MIDI, I get an unwanted bass tone from TD-3!
    :roll:
  • This holds true for the other way around as well; playing TD-3 tones over MIDI triggers drum voices.
  • It's as if Push 3 (standalone) merges the two incoming MIDI channels. And then sends the merged signals two both the outgoing MIDI channels. :?
That is not the behaviour I expected from Push 3.

Question
1. Any takes on this? Tips? Hints?
2. Anyone running Beatstep Pro with Push 3 (standalone) and would like to share their settings, experiences and setup =D ?

Cheers all!

MIDI setting and audio routing: 8O
Beatstep Pro is sending a sequence on MIDI ch. 3 and a drum pattern on MIDI ch.10
TD3 is set to MIDI ch. 3
Korg Volca is set to MIDI ch. 10
Push 3 Track 1 is a MIDI-track set to Midi Ch. 10 with an added external instrument set to input 1 (Volca Beat)
Push 3 Track 2 is a MIDI-track set to Midi Ch. 03 with an added external instrument set to input 2 (TD-3)

Extra info as suggested in sticky post by Ableton Forum Administrator: :arrow:
- Make sure you're using the latest version of Live available to you.
--> Check!
- Update your OS to the most current version (if you can).
--> Latest available!
- Make sure ALL your drivers are up to date for things like your sound card, computer, motherboard, etc.
--> Check!
- Try the default drivers for your soundcard, ASIO4ALL is not a magic solution to all situations. The included drivers are almost always better in fact.
--> NA, running Push 3 STANDALONE
- Provide some details about your computer system, audio interface, what version of Live you are using, what OS, etc.
--> NA, running Push 3 STANDALONE
