I'm super green to production so go easy
I've been in bands and around studios for years but always in a trad band setting (drums, bass, 2 x guitars, vox).
I'm really enjoying a lot of Synthwave and Darker stuff these days and thought I'd have a bash. Its really absorbing and Im loving it but I could do with some basic rules of thumb to help me get my ideas organised,
Based on my 'band' mentality. I'm basically putting the drum rack down the centre, a defined bass and sometimes an additional noisier bass is also going down the middle.
Then I've got a synth left and synth right and any leads, ARPS etc somewhere between centre and hard left/right.
This pretty much copies the band I'm in.
I get that its all about personal taste but I'm interested in what more experienced users do. I've already reviewed some templates but they just seem to put everything down the middle.
Particularly interested in whether putting a synth hard left and another (slightly different toned synth) hard right doing pretty much the same thing is a good idea or am I just creating clutter...
And with Keys, is it worth putting in a couple of bass notes (in Octave 2) or do you tend to just have chords in Octave 3 and let the bass take care of bass notes (in Octave 1).
Like I said, I know its all about what my ears think is good but listening to more experienced users is always nice
