Maximum number of plugin buses

Post by sinosoidal » Fri Dec 08, 2023 8:46 am

Hi,

We have recently released BAM - Beat Maker & Music Maker which is a groovebox style application with 16 tracks, two send tracks and a master track.

When testing the multi bus output we came a cross a limitation? It seems that Ableton Live is limiting the number of output busses of a plugin to 16 stereo or 32 mono busses. This means we had to compromise. In Live we cannot have the master track and the two send tracks being sent to Live when loading BAM as a plugin. Is this a real limitation? I can't find any information about this.

I'm asking this because Reaper for example, does not have any limitation of number of busses.

We have also realised that Ableton Live does not process plugins at 64 bit. Is this a limitation to keep the performance at good leves? Regarding this topic I have found this article:

https://www.ableton.com/en/manual/audio ... mix-points

I think this clearly states that processing is made at 32 bit and summing at 64 bit.

Reaper also processes at 64 bit.

Does Ableton Live 12 brings any change to this?

Thanks!
