Browser keyboard shortcuts

Post by icedsushi » Tue Oct 11, 2005 7:15 pm

Now that the browser is playing a more important role and it being used in patch management, it is being used more often for repetitive tasks that can speed up with user defineable keyboard shorcuts.

Since a hidden browser now opens up when selecting patches and doesn't close itself again, a faster way to close the browser again becomes necessary. For example:

The browser is one of the few things on the Live GUI that has no keyboard shortcuts.

User assignable shortcuts for the following would speed up the interface allowing both the keys and the mouse to be used at the same time while working in the browser.

I am suggesting keyboard shortcuts for:

- browser open/close toggle

- and also all the folder icons down the left side (plugin directories and the 3 custom folder directories, etc)

I think this is a wonderful idea -- second it BIG time. Allow us to reclaim the screen landscape if we need it with a simple kb shortcut!

Me three. Ctrl-Alt-B for Browser!

I often find myself double clicking (and sometimes dragging) the browser's right-hand-side bar to close it -- you can do this with clip view which is why I think it's more intuitive...

Eh and user mappable keyboard shortcuts for everything! Rabble!

Edit: And I think if you can open the browser with one click of the icons running down the left you should be able to close it with another click -- just like the mixer, i/o etc buttons on the right

I think the Abletons once talked about the possibility of midi controlling the browser... that would be sweet. Screw drop downs and stuff. Just trigger an .als and it loads. Woo!

I totally agree. This would be a great feature. I really miss all the ease of the drop down menus in live 4. This would make workflow much more efficient.

the return of the much wanted browser shortcut!!

but check it out, i have a work around untill we get it!

use the tab key

if you are in session close the browser there
hit tab open it in arrange (if it's not allready)
then you can open/close the browser with "tab"

just drag files into space and hit tab again before you drop them

Not bad...not bad at all. :)

Browser still pops open when you select a synth patch though in Live 5 though. Still alot of needless clicking to close it all the time if you have a wide session view and don't want to scroll left/right.

I still think it would be awesome to be able to open my plugin folders and sample folders with a single key. Could just assign "q" "a" & "z" to three folders. Bam! Right there at your fingertips just like it appears on the screen, then grab the files with the mouse.

I agree, I can't believe the Help Pane has a shortcut and not the browser still. And please, if we save our sets with the browser closed, then keep it closed when we reopen that set. Ditto on templates.

A little utility made with Autohotkeys for Windows.
ALT-1 open/close browser
ALT 2..6 open device/plugin/file 1,2,3 browsers

:D

PS If you're Mac i heard there are programs to make hotkeys too.
