Ableton 11 Slow on Mac M2 Sonoma
Re: Ableton 11 Slow on Mac M2 Sonoma
Hello folks,
the downgrade to Ventura failed (not compatible with the M3), also to 14.1.2 seems not possible.
Here is an attempt to answer your questions:
- in an empty live session there are no problems.
- It seems to be mainly the plug-ins that are causing trouble (especially Native Instruments Complete (e.g. Analog Dreams, Guitar Rig, Komplete) and Reason Plugin).
- I work with two Quantum 2626 via Thunderbolt
- Here are the specs: Ableton 11.3.13., MacOs Sonoma 14.2., 96 Khz, 32 samples, 1.33ms global latency
If anyone else has any ideas, I'd be happy to hear them, otherwise I'll just have to wait for the next updates.

Supplement: The Ableton sounds also cause the CPU to skyrocket...

Try 48Khz 128 buffer. Honestly 32/96 is still a brutal level for latency buffers, do you normally set things like this on your last machine? At least if you try 48/128 and it's not massively better you know there's something going wrong.Ronkomane wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 9:53 amHello folks,

Do you have the same problems without your interface?

Yes, you're right. But that's exactly why I got the M3 Max and the Quantums, to get 1.3mm latency. As 4 multi-instrumentalists, we want to record 16 channels at once. Presonus advertises its Quantum 2626 for exactly that. Both interfaces are connected with a Thunderbolt cable and cascaded according to the instructions.Try 48Khz 128 buffer. Honestly 32/96 is still a brutal level for latency buffers, do you normally set things like this on your last machine? At least if you try 48/128 and it's not massively better you know there's something going wrong.
And: With 48/ 128 it definitely gets better, then the latency is 5.83ms, which is too high. I could live with 48/32, that would be 2.50ms. 1.33ms would be better

I am new to this topic. I'll have a look ...

Just for information I have some issues with NI plugins on a M1 pro / Sonoma.Ronkomane wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 9:53 amHello folks,

But I don't have issues with Live native devices or Reason plugins... Strange.

Nothing strange about that, NI state pretty clearly they haven't finished testing in Sonoma.Calagan wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2024 11:32 amJust for information I have some issues with NI plugins on a M1 pro / Sonoma.Ronkomane wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 9:53 amHello folks,

Re: Ableton 11 Slow on Mac M2 Sonoma
for balance, I have live suite 11.3.13 running on an M2 Pro Mac mini which is on Sonoma 14.2.1. my Scarlett 8i6 is set to 48k & 128 samples. everything is buttery smooth
the bluetooth connection between my Mac & M&K on the other hand is garbage. I have my push 3 between the 2 and have needed to move the Mac for a better connection to avoid me launching something across the room in frustration

Yep of course, but most of my plugins don't have "official" support for Sonoma and are working fine...Machinesworking wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2024 5:08 pmNothing strange about that, NI state pretty clearly they haven't finished testing in Sonoma.Calagan wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2024 11:32 amJust for information I have some issues with NI plugins on a M1 pro / Sonoma.Ronkomane wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 9:53 amHello folks,

And even Reaktor or Kontak are "generally" ok : only some libraries are problematic (for exemple, Rounds in Reaktor, for any strange reason, is producing some strange random CPU peaks, but most Reaktor synths are ok on my system).
Given the mess that NI became, it seems the issues are as various as the users, and it's difficult to pinpoint an issue that everybody experience...

That's the key word though, "most", you're even self reporting Reaktor Ensembles that are acting up, i.e. they aren't ready for Sonoma.Calagan wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 6:48 amYep of course, but most of my plugins don't have "official" support for Sonoma and are working fine...Machinesworking wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2024 5:08 pmNothing strange about that, NI state pretty clearly they haven't finished testing in Sonoma.

Generally OK is not "tested and working fine in." It's the difference between being able to run 140 instances of Dive on the Mac Studio here, and not probably being about to run 20 instances of Rounds without the audio dying.
