Can I record a digital piano into Live at a bit rate I want?

Post by msanjelpie » Thu Jan 04, 2024 8:35 pm

Info:

A digital piano (Kawai CA701) states that it records onto a USB device at 16 bit.

I need the final recorded Wav. file to be 24 bit.

If I hook up the digital piano directly to my audio interface (Scarlett 18i8) via jacks/cables and record that digital piano directly into Ableton Live, will the software only be able to record at 16 bit because of the limitations of the digital piano, or can Live record at 24 bit regardless of what the piano is capable of recording at?

Hope I'm making myself clear.

If you're just connecting the audio outputs from the Kawaii into your sound card inputs, you can set Live to work at whatever bit rate you want. 24bits is a good option, you really shouldn't need anything higher for what you're doing.

Thank you! Streaming sites want 24, not 16 and I didn't want to purchase the Kawai if I couldn't get the end result file that I need.

Appreciate your help again...
