So I got a M3 16" MBP
I've been having a lot of lag with ableton. I know there are issues with the M3 already, but my question is this. Right now I'm using a USB B to USB A cable to go to my Behringer XR18 from my mac with an adapter (USB A to USB C).
I'm wondering if I'd be better off with this on the mixer
The other issue is that my Mac is about 12' from the mixer. Any ideas? So I'm using a 12' USB > USB C cable with an adapter to the thunderbolt port on my mac.
Thanks

Lag is a pretty general term. Would help if you described what the lag applies to, and if it was a different experience on a previous system with the same peripherals.

Latency. Drum rack kick (4 on the floor) and hardware drum machine out of sync.

Have you had it working successfully in the past? What drum machine? What sync method? How bad of latency? What have you already tried? Changing buffer settings?

Bumping it down to 64 seems to help.
Ableton is master, sending out sync to Hapax midi sequencer. This is my first time using Ableton

So. The thing to keep in mind is that one way or another there will always be some kind of latency. And this will be perceived one way or another depending on routing or your performance method. The latency is due to your computer having to process what goes in and out of it…
For sequencing only, one might use some kind of delay compensation to make up the difference. But then directly playing notes into Live would be undesirable.
For playing notes in? You might minimize the delay compensation altogether. But then you will have small amounts of timing discrepancies with sequenced external instruments which you’d just have to accept and minimize the amount of that problem to make it least perceptible.
Honestly, I don’t have a Lot of experience juggling these issues. But hopefully with the additional details you’ve added, others can chime in with their knowledge on tackling these challenges.
