Also no wi fi or bluetooth (bluetooth headphones would have really rocked).

It would be great to access music & video sites & download content directly into your iPod.

If the Sony PSP can do it why not the Apple iPod?
i think this is just the new ipod that happens to be able to do video. perhaps a the real WS video ipod is around the corner?

If that imac had a pcmcia slot. Then i might have sold my dual G5 and gone for the 20".
Uh? Are you seriously thinking about selling a dual G5? Being obsolete technology at this "pre Intel phase" I doubt you would get much money for it.

BTW, my 2x2 G5 just died, after exactly two years service, and I'm now working on a lame-ass 1,25 powerbook. I'm not sure I'll be able to keep up the work-flow on that machine so I have been thinking about some alternatives; either get a centrino lappy (means going back to Logic 5.5.1 from 7.1.1) or trying to hold out for some weeks/months to get a new dual G5 as prices get really low (move over extra RAM + drives). My hopes are that I can hold out as long as possible on this powerbook to spare me the cost, but it's not fun... I was playing around with GURU in Live yesterday and the coolest patches just killed the powerbook's G4 cpu ;-(
I wouldn't go back to a G4. But just imagine them making a slightly thicker powerbook. In a 20" version. There would be more then enough room for dual dual -core g5 cpu's.
I mean... That new imac really looks thin...
I just need pci or pcmcia for a decent audio interface.

I know... It won't happen...
Just like jobs said that there wouldn't be a video ipod

Ah hell who knows....
It'll probably for June 2006....

FACT.

Even if they could put a G5 cpu into a powerbook (which they won't)..... it would still get trounced by AMD & Intel computers made over a year ago.... so what would be the point?

Then when the Yonah chips hit the market, Apple would be right back in the same situation, lagging behind the hardware of their competition.

FACT.

If they put a higher resolution screen on a powerbook, they would just be catching up to where the PC market left them a long time ago. The pc laptop I am typing this on could have been purchased with 1920 x 1200 resolution... and this model has been around a long time.

Yeah, that is a good point. I think Apple realized this as well - afterall, isn't that why they are switching to intel chips, because IBM/Motorola couldn't, or would'nt, keep up? I read that not only was IBM/Motorola failing to keep up with AMD and Intel speeds, they also were not meeting Apples production demands.

You know, and with all that aside I don't think it would make much sense to release an entire new line of g5 notebooks at this point. I am sure the intel platforms are well into production.

But I would hardly call a dual g5 "obsolete technology". As a matter of fact, I am planing on buying one next month. I need a high end work station and I really can not wait 6 months or so for the new machines to launch, and I just don't see a reason to. Ofcourse I will lust after the new machines when they launch, but I have no doubts that a dual 2.7 will be more than capable of acommodating my needs for a couple of years or more.

As far as the new apple products go, it is not surprising that everyone here is bored with them. Everthing is aimed at the consumer market and this board is populated by people, professional, semi-professional, and hobbyists alike, who use their computers in advanced ways that go beyond average consumer use.

Pentium4 3.4 GHz, 17" screen, 2048 RAM DDR2, and dual SATA hard drives in Raid 0.

Bring it on. It'll smoke any Mac made. 8)

And there's pcs that will smoke mine. So Apple has some catching up to do.

I think the most-overlooked announcement from yesterday has to do with iTunes 6's new ability to download tv shows. Currently, shows from ABC will be available the day after broadcast for $1.99/episode.

Imagine as that archive builds and expands to other networks and archived shows. I think the ability to potentially be able to download any episode of any show EVER is mindboggling. We've been used to being able to do that with music for years, but TV/Film is a great unexplored opportunity.

FWIW, you don't HAVE to have an iPod to watch this stuff, either. All you need is iTunes 6. (Which is FREE.) That's it. Sure, you have to watch them on your computer, but notice the new 20" iMac. Comes with a remote. My current home TV is a 20" tv. A few years from now, who's to say that the iMac won't be the center of my living room?

IMO, this stuff is the stuff to watch for the next few months...there's a real industry change afoot, and these are the baby step towards growth. Mark my words.

I have both PCs and Macs and doing visual media production work on PC's is horrendous.

For whatever reason, the out of the box configurations on PCs laptop monitors is way off when it comes to color accuracy and printing compared to Macs.

I never use my PC Laptop anymore for any Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. And it was no cheap ass machine but a top of the line Sony Vaio.

inis wrote:There is definetly be a new powerbook before the intel, because you will not see an intel based powerbook in the beginning of next year. FACT. The only thing you might get a peak at is a G5/iMac, but the laptops are far away, so dont hold your breath.

Yes, dual core is coming out in a G5 as well, before the intel.

The powerbooks will also have improved displays, most likely HD on the 15 and 17" models.

All FACT.
Did IBM make a G5 processor recently that can be kept cool inside a powerbook? yes. Is apple going to waste time ordering something like this before intel? no. There will be new ones, but there no need to jump to G5. Just faster G4's.

Anything else you may have heard from a rumor site, remember, thats exactly what it is. People were talking about the craziest shit eariler this week that might be released today. Obviously it wasnt. It really isnt too hard to predict apple's movements with products if you know where to look.
er welll
all the above is speculation otherwise known as rumour

Well... that would make a Mac like one of those poser high-school kid rice burners that have been semi-suped up to look like they were in the Fast & Furious... but with only the cosmetic changes....no engine mods.

So it looks fast.... but isn't.

Then i'll build myself a 500$ quad 5 Ghz pc. And i'll paint a banana on it.
