Individually adjust Live-Device parameters for Remote

Post by jjot » Sat Feb 03, 2024 2:26 pm

Hello, I'm looking for a way to customize the Live-Device parameters assigned via the "blue hand icon" in a remote script for my 8 knob controller.

Example: Ableton sets by default that for the Analog-Device Knob1 is for “Filter Freq” and Knob2 is for “Filter Reso”... I would like to customize the mapping for each Live-Device.

Is there a way to do this in Ableton Live, for example via a special remote script or a Max for Live device?

It would be nice if someone could help me here.

Group in a rack. Use macros.
MacBook Pro 13" Retina i7 2.8 GHz OS 10.13, L10.0.1, M4L.
MacStudio M1Max 32Go OS 12.3.1

Or PrEditor 2 if you need more than 16 controls available.

Thanks already for the answers. I had already thought about using macros to do this. However, if the assignments could be set via a remote script, for example, it would be much more convenient.

It's a shame that Ableton is so difficult to assign live devices in a standard remote. I really miss a function that allows me to easily specify which device parameter is controlled via the "blue hand remote". Unfortunately, there isn't even an overview of which device parameters Ableton has assigned for the "blue hand remote".

Does anyone else have an idea about this?

That's exactly what I've posted above....

Preditor might be the way to go. The thing to realize is that it is not a simple automatic task. I think I’ve seen one or two other solutions a number of years ago. But based on what I saw on the preditor site and some YouTube vids it is created to allow you to edit the Default layout of the devices, and if I’m not mistaken, it might even allow this per controller?? Which would be badass if that’s the case.

You can look at the YouTube vids to see them using it to re-arrange some defaults. From what I saw, it doesn’t use macros but the Live devices themselves. And they even did a case where they changed it on a Push 2 (which unfortunately overrides. The slick custom UI’s but you can always switch back)
