Timing problems!!!

Post by suburban » Thu Oct 13, 2005 5:47 pm

Hello,

i don't get it, I bought the new version and was hoping midi communication was better then before but it seems worse?? I hoocked up my external instruments,... they play AHEAD of everything else and i'm talkng about 0.5 SECONDS ahead...plugins and audio clips left behind... how is this possible??? I have not a problem like this in SX, wich has a superb midi-communication on this machine!
Live settings are default, but I tryed changing latency etc... didn't help , I can't even hear midi clock latency settings work!!! My soundcard is delta 1010LT at 384samples wich is fine for what i do...I got a powerfull CPU (AMD4000+) wich gives me good performance overall...but this is just unacceptable for me to work with external instruments in LIVE!

PLEASE FIX IT!!!!!!

Hi suburban,

please explain exactly what your setup is, how it is connected and what do you want to do.

regards,
Alex

Do you mean ahead during recording or just when listening? If recording, is track monitoring on the armed track set to IN, AUTO, or OFF?

I mean ahead when just listning , I know there is always some silence when recording with latency, but I just cut it away with Sony SF..not a big deal for me.
But this is a big deal!! I just load a audio loop, and connect a external midi instrument, when I press play (both) the external device starts before the audio loop (very noticable) and i can't do someting about it!!! its like a bad DJ mix when you hear both play...not syncing up with each other. i configured live settings to "track" and "sync" the midi ports of specific devices i have. I use Midex 8 as interface...like I told before this doesn't happen with other hosts ( SX , FL-Studio ) , all is perfect there...so for now can't use live for this type of work

my desktop setup:

AMD4000+
Win XP Pro
DFI Lanparty SLI DR
ASUS EN6800 Ultra
2GB Corsair TWINX PRO RAM
Delta 1010LT audio
Midex 8 midi - interface

greets!

Are you monitoring the external synths through Live or directly through soundcard/mixer outside of Live during the playback?

Which way you are monitoring is very important in this situation and will drastically affect timing. Try to give more information about things that affect your timing. Whatever you can think of...Have you set your overall latency correctly, for example?

Also, I would suggest you to check against the built in metronome rather than a drum loop. It's the most reliable reference point when troubleshooting. The less variables the better.
