Live 12 - VSTs crash the software

Post by Emi San » Sat Mar 09, 2024 4:01 pm

Hey all,
so i've been using Live 12 for a few days now, and everything is working fine expect my plugins.
Once i examine the VST and AU folders and they appear in the browser, loading one of them (but not ALL go them, which is super weird) makes the software crash.
And because it won't restart anymore, i have to delete the Preferences file for the root library for it to open again.
If y re-analyze my plugins and try to load one, it crashes again, and i have to restart all over again.

Is there a way to fix this ?
Help !

Sounds like there's a problematic VST in there.

Might be a long job, but you could move them all out, then put them back in one by one until it crashes again. Then you'd know the first culprit. Remove that one and continue with the others, until you have all the working ones in there.

Just a thought

Ive got that problem with Minifreak VST3, but not Minifreak VST2. And same problem with NI Komplete Kontrol 2.9.6 VST2, but not not KK 3 VST3
( you can have both kK installed. )
They cant be loaded and when i shut down Live 12 it act as it has crashed and ask if i want to reopen it.
Ive reinstalled everything both Live and the vsts, but without any luck.
Otherwise everything else works like a Dream

Mac mini.

Sonoma 14.4
Ive solved the KK 2.9.6 problem, it seems I need to run live with Rosetta with that specific vst2 version.
The Minifreak VST3 still won't work.

Most NI VST2s (if not all) need Rosetta - native Apple silicon support is VST3 only

This has nothing to do with Ableton

Probably not the same issue as the OP but I've got an issue with Live12 crashing with a selection of U-He plugins.

Open my default live set & add (say) Uhbik-D to a channel.
Open the channel & then open the effect from the toolbar to bring up the plugin window.
Close the effect with the same icon in the toolbar.
The graphics for the plugin disappear from the window but the now greyed out window remains behind, where you'd normally expect the window to disappear.
Click on the "open plugin" icon again & a second plugin window opens.
Close the plugin again & it leaves another blank pane behind.
Repeat ....
When you close Live it crashes.

Of the plugins i tried ...
Issue occurs with ACE, Presswerk, ZebraHZ, Bazille, every Uhbik i tested. VST3 or AU.
OK with Diva, MFM2, Filterscape, Zebralette3.
All non U-He plugins i tested seem to be ok - Valhalla, Audio Damage.

Obviously they work fine in Live11.

x86 macOS Ventura.

Ableton support have a couple of crashes from me. It's 100% reproducable.

Having the same issue, as soon as I open Diva, Repro or Hive.. I click on the top left corner (red button) to close it and live crashes.
It works nicely on 11

Sonoma 14.5

Has anyone experienced something similar?

hi,
new to Live (12 lite) on Sonoma 14.6, Macbook Air M3.
Having multiple problems with:
Uhbik: "Lost the connection to the Audio Unit v2 plug-in"
Eventide Quadravox: creating latency when present in any of the tracks and affecting all the audio
Grm-INA Evolution and others: creating even higher latency when present in any of the tracks and affecting all the audio and sometimes crashing the Live12 when added on one track.

Any idea?
thank you

Uhbik is very old (Uhbik 1.3.1 (revision 3898) - Released October 7, 2015) so not Apple Silicon native or compatible with your macOS version

U-He is working on a new release, there is a public Alpha https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=534516 but that was posted in 2019...

For the other plugins mentioned, make sure you're using the latest version that is Apple Silicon native and compatible with your macOS version...
