Every time I start Live 11 my VSTs are missing
Every time I start Live 11 my VSTs are missing
This started happening after the last update. I have changed nothing...
When I start Live my Default template loads. It should have EZDrummer 3, Serum, Spire and Ample Hellrazer (VST3 versions) in their own tracks. They load up on the board, but I get messages at the bottom that non of them can be found. When I click on Plug-Ins under Categories on the left all my VSTs are missing, there is nothing. I have to open preferences and "Rescan" and they show up just fine then. I then save as Default Set thinking it will be fixed and then it happens next time I start Live.
I am using the default Windows VST3 folder (C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3). I have the box checked to use system VST3 folder in Prefs and have also tried enabling\disabling the custom folder (which would be the exact same location). Nothing helps. My recent new install on my laptop does not have this issue. I have tried also tried removing all my VSTs, re-scanning in Live and then re-adding them, does not help.
Ideas???

Re: Every time I start Live 11 my VSTs are missing
I FOUND A WORKAROUND, sort of...
So apparently if I have a VST2 folder in C:\Program Files\Common Files and I have that selected as a custom VST2 folder in preferences, then Live has a fit and refuses to see ANY of my VSTs until I rescan after starting the program. THIS MUST BE A BUG!
If I check the custom VST2 folder and point to the above mentioned location it will not see any VSTs on startup. If I leave the VST2 custom folder unchecked it will show my VST3s just fine.
It appears if I have either VST2 or VST3 custom folder selected it will not show any VSTs. I can ONLY use System VST3 folder or otherwise I have to rescan after every Live launch. I even moved my VST2 folder to my desktop and told Live to look there for VST2 custom folder and then they all disappered again upon every launch until I rescanned.
Something is broken...

Nope, still broken...
So I rebuilt my custom default template with the the four VSTs I use and saved it and exited, and started getting the error upon startup. And Plug-ins is empty until I scan again.
Not using any custom folder, just the VST3 system folder.
I can actually see my VSTs load for a just a split second if the "Plug-Ins" folder was the last thing I selected when I exited. Then they quickly disappear. WTH is going on???
I can upload a video if you all think I'm crazy. Start Live, see the plugins for about 2 seconds, and then they all disappear.
Any help appreciated...

Complete Wipe and Reinstall...
I completely wiped the program, removed every bit, ran CCleaner and manually removed any remnants. Re-download and re-installed.
Everything seems fine... but then...
I CAN DO ANYTHING I WANT, BUT IF I "SAVE LIVE SET AS A DEFAULT SET" THEN IT LOSES ALL PLUGINS EVERY TIME THE APP STARTS UP.
This failure becomes permanent and from that point on they WILL NOT EVER LOAD BY THEMSELVES and only load upon a "rescan" in prefs. Even if I delete the templates folder as per the Live reset instructions.
BROKEN!

Every set opens with missing VTSs now... Ugh!
So due to the disappearing VSTs. Every set/song that has a single VST (which is everything I've ever done in Live) opens with an error and missing VST(s). I have to "Rescan" and then drag the VST back into the track to work. Then it will be gone the next time I open it.
I just don't understand why it refuses to hold them.

Re: Every time I start Live 11 my VSTs are missing
Are you using the latest L11 version?
When did this problem start happening? What did you change last before?
Did you contact Support?
Did you check the permissions of your plugins/plugins’ folder ?

Re: Every time I start Live 11 my VSTs are missing
I'm using the most current version 0.25
This only happened after the latest update. I've been using it continuously without a single problem before that.
Folder permission hasn't changed please see above as nothing has changed on my computer except this failure.
I have not yet contacted support. I guess that's the next step. I suspect they will run me through the standard questions you have as well: uninstall and reinstall, delete folders, reset Ableton Live etc etc. I've done all of those things. It's not a Windows issue as far as I can tell. I've owned an IT support company for 32 years so I know a thing or two about folder structure, permissions etc.
Occasionally, probably one out of every five starts it will hold the plugins after I've done a rescan and closed it. But the other four out of 5 you'll see the VSTs for just a split second and then they will disappear and then you'll get the message that VST could not be found. So it has something to do with the process of when it's scanning the VST folder at startup.
I've even stripped all the VSTs out of the common files folder and just put one in there, serum. Still doesn't work. For reference I have a brand new laptop that I just set up with the same VSTs and it works fine so it's not a faulty VST causing it to glitch either.
If you read all my other posts you'll see I've tried literally everything that can be tried at this point besides wiping my OS on this machine which will not happen.

Re: Every time I start Live 11 my VSTs are missing
BTW this is still broken. About one out of every five loads of Live it shows the Plug-Ins. Every other time I have to rescan from preferences.

Could you please share a screenshot of your plugin settings in Live?

These images are on OneDrive and do not seem to be loading. Not sure how to get them to show up here. So, here are the links as well.

As mentioned previously, if you've read through the detailed original posts. It does not matter if I have: system folder turned on and custom folder turned off, or both of them turned on, or only custom folder turned on. This problem exists in all three combinations of options.
I'm only using the default folder location for VST3s and not using any VST2s at all. I have also done a completely clean install of Ableton Live 11 (the most current version) after doing an uninstall and manually going and removing any remnant folders. As well as a "reset" as described on the support page. I'm only using four very well-known VST3s that I've used for years and this setup works perfectly fine on my laptop with the exact same configuration.
You'll also see above that I mentioned when they disappear, which is almost every time I load Ableton Live, I will see them for just a split second on screen and then they disappear and then I get notification at the bottom that VSTs could not be loaded upon opening the default template. I have also created/recreated and deleted the default template many times and even copied the one from my working laptop. It almost seems like it loads the program so fast that it can't get the VSTs scanned in time occasionally. This is on an extremely high end PC with an Intel 14700KF, 64GB DDR5, and a pair of Samsung 2TB 980 Pro NVMe drives. This only started happening after the last update. Before that it has been solid for months.
I have noticed it seems to be working if I do a complete reboot of my PC. But if I have previously used Live and then restart it, it gets grumpy. It is also inconsistent and sometimes just works...
