Backup sets no longer end up in trash

Post by MountainPeople » Mon May 20, 2024 9:32 am

Starting mid Feb 2023 deleted files from the project backup folder (in excess of 10) no longer end up in bin/trash on MacOS. Does anyone notice the same behaviour or have an explanation?

If your sets have a different name that could explain it. Eg if you numbered them « my set 1 », « my set 1.2 » etc Live will backup up to 10 version for each number/name.

Thanks but no sets whatsoever which get deleted end up in bin anymore. It totally stopped in Feb 2023. I just did a test with repeated saving on a live set. The 'older' versions get deleted from backup folder but no longer are in the bin. I wonder if Ableton started to hard delete them at some point. If I delete a set from the backup folder manually it does show up in the bin.
I submitted a ticket to Ableton.

I just tried and I can't reproduce. Older backups are automatically moved to the bin here (on macOS Monterey)

Maybe somehow the project is on some drive / filesystem that does not support the trash?

thank you! and yes, exactly: my projects folder is on the dropbox location that was introduced beginning of 2023. It's a special folder on the main drive but deletions go to the dropbox bin, not the local bin. Strangely this is not the behaviour when deleting manually from that locatiion.
