If you're not playing live and sequencing the part: You could make each new note start with a copy of the previous note but only a 64th long, then have the new note play with a 128th gap between the start of the first note and the start of the new note. The first short note would overlap with the next and glide would be heard the moment the second note is activated. Because the first note only plays in isolation for such a short time you wouldn't really hear it as a single note, but simply as the starting point for the glide up to the second.
Personally, I think legato controlled glide is a wonderful thing, but it would be useful to have the option to have glide permanently engaged if desired. Both the SH-101 and Pro One have both options.

Re: Glide isn't working with the Drift synth
Having the notes overlap fundamentally change the riff. I really like this patch and would rather not have to recreate it, but it seems like that's what I'll need to do.
It's supposed to be little accents. Like.... dum... dum... dum... and I just want there to be the sound of the pitch "zipping" from the each note to the next. It's an incredibly basic function of virtually any synth I've ever used. The idea that portamento is simply not available is pretty much astounding to me. It's a crazy limitation that just does not make any sense to me. It would be like if pitch bend only worked when the sustain pedal is on. Why? Why on earth disable a basic function?
^Synthbuilder, your workaround just might work! Inserting a tiny little note to trick the synth might do it. I've just made a video showing how enabling glide and adjusting it has zero effect and sent it to Ableton support. I just can't imagine this is on purpose. I'm also a live keyboard player and disabling portamento functionality is incredibly limiting.

Re: Glide isn't working with the Drift synth
Well... it's official. They intentionally designed it with this limitation. They want you to use an LFO... or I'll have to do the micro note to trick the synth into seeing overlapping notes. I'm frankly shocked that they would go out of their way to limit basic functionality.
Can anyone explain to me why "glide" which will not allow the notes to glide from one to the next unless the notes overlap, is superior to portamento which works exactly the same except the notes don't have to overlap?
This is what they said:
>>>>
The "Glide" feature on Drift will not work unless MIDI notes overlap on the piano roll. This is how "Glide" is designed to function on Drift, as well as on other devices that incorporate the Glide feature.
>>>>
It's literally "designed" not to work. Portamento is something I use all the time and expect to have available.

Got it, I didn't undertand what you were trying to do. I think Poli does what you need.

Re: Glide isn't working with the Drift synth
See that's the problem. Drift doesn't offer portamento. It offers "glide" which is just like portamento except it's limited. Seriously why on earth would they do that? It's gotta be one of the most stupid things I've ever some across in a synth.
The tip above did the trick. I drew in little 64th notes where I wanted "glide" to actually glide and tricked the synth by making it see overlapping notes and thus, actually glide.
If anyone from Ableton sees this, please make glide work. Only working when notes overlap makes zero sense.
