Upgrade from Suite to Standard edition : are we keeping packs and instruments ?
Hello, I'm the owner of live 12 Suite edition, and I'd like to know what will happen the day I upgrade to the higher version (13) in STANDARD edition. Will I still be able to use the instruments, effects and packs that were installed for live 12 in the SUITE edition ?
Re: Upgrade from Suite to Standard edition : are we keeping packs and instruments ?
Unless the packs and instruments have been advertised as included in 13 Standard, then no you would not keep anything that is Suite exclusive.

I’m pretty sure that you keep anything you ‘already’ have. You just don’t get added things. I might be wrong. Would be nice to hear from more people on this

Upgrade FAQ
I guess the wording on this is slippery. They say if you purchased max separately, it will continue to carry over, but not that it’ll carry over if you go from Suite to Standard.
It says purchased instrument ‘packs and add-ons’ will carry over. It doesn’t really clarify anything about if they’re acquire through Suite.
I’ve always imagined Suite was a bargain way to buy multiple devices and packs, not necessarily seeing it as a one-off purchase where if you went from 11 to 12 you suddenly lose Operator or a Piano pack.
Would be nice to see some clarification on this. I think the incentive to go from Suite to Suite again is that you get the New content, the and the new devices, plus you won’t have to have second thoughts about future device additions that Suite users often get access to automatically.

Re: Upgrade from Suite to Standard edition : are we keeping packs and instruments ?
Thanks for your answers, and finally the right question is: Will packs or instruments purchased together in a Suite edition be treated as separate purchases ?
This would mean that they could still be downloaded and used in higher versions of Live in the Standard edition.

If you have a license for Ableton Live Suite 11, you have a license for Suite 11. If you buy an upgrade to Standard 12, you have a license for Suite 11 and a license for Standard 12. You can install and use both programs. However, you do not have a Suite 12 license. Logical, isn't it?
If I buy the Suite instruments individually, which is much more expensive than buying the Suite bundle, I can theoretically use them as long as Live supports them in future versions. I mean, most of the Suite instruments I buy will also run on the Lite version.
That's my understanding.

When Live 12 was released, I upgraded my old 10 Suite to 12 Standard, so I can confirm that the extra packs and instruments you get with Suite come with their own separate licenses, and YES, these licenses are carried over to your new Standard license. You can check which licenses you already have by going to your account page and clicking on "Show serial numbers".krisnotoff wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2024 3:24 pmThanks for your answers, and finally the right question is: Will packs or instruments purchased together in a Suite edition be treated as separate purchases ?

So I now have Standard plus all the instruments (like Wavetable, Operator, Sampler, Amp) and all of the soundpacks, plus Max4Live (which is important because a lot of additional instruments and FX are based on M4L and require a full M4L license, they will not work with the M4L runtime that is included with all Live versions)
The only things I'm missing are those that are explicitly "12 Suite exclusive", like Meld, Roar and a few new soundpacks.

Thank you very much for your answer, everything is very clear now and what you say is very good news.resident_m wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2024 9:24 amWhen Live 12 was released, I upgraded my old 10 Suite to 12 Standard, so I can confirm that the extra packs and instruments you get with Suite come with their own separate licenses, and YES, these licenses are carried over to your new Standard license. I can confirm that upgrading from Live 11 Suite to Live 12 standard you will retain the devices/packs that you had in the 11 Suite.
Upgrading is such a headache, but seeing the new autoshift/tuning system was a must, and the steep 500 (CAD) difference between standard and suite, I was willing to let go of operator, wavetable etc.
After installation I was surprised to see on the account page all these instruments were listed with an "AUTHORIZE" button. I googled to see if i would lose my saving ability and came across this thread. You don't it works fine.
So glad i didn't go for the full upgrade and only spent 179 (CAD). Thanks Ableton!

Yes, but you have to admit that Meld, Granulator 3 and Roar are very good tools
