Rant…ADAT interface physical connectors

Post by dougtheguy » Wed Jul 17, 2024 4:41 pm

It has been over 30 years since Alesis created the ADAT standard. Most everything about it over the years has been great to awesome.

In my opinion it is long overdue that the physical connectors should be re-engineered. In the studio there is generally no problem but in a mobile situation the connectors just don’t cut it. They are just not securely attached to the devices. Also they are somewhat fragile. One connector on my 828es broke after years of service (luckily the 828 has two sets of ADAT)..?

Agree

Over the years I’ve had ADAT connectors fail more than any other by a wide margin

It's more about ADAT in itself than Push using this digital connector format, right?

Thanks for your interest in this.

Yes it's about ADAT not push, but I see no company showing any interest, which means this will continue as it is.

The ADAT interface is the least reliable least robust connector in all the music industry including consumer grade gear, yet is one of the most mission critical connections in a persons rig. For this reason I just don't use it in a mobile setting any more, which has been a major disappointment in my plans to incorporate push3 into my rig.
