Delay playing external instrument from pads (can't be audio)

Post by dcjams » Thu Aug 15, 2024 9:14 pm

Hi

Push 3 Standalone (Push 2.1b7, Ableton Live Suite 12 (12.1b7))

New set, add instrument, any, let's say Analog, play pads ... I hear the instrument instantly

Add instrument External Instrument, route audio from external synth (UDO Super 6) to Push audio inputs. Set MIDI To to Super 6 MIDI 1, set Audio From and Channel correctly

Play Super 6 from its keyboard ... I hear the Super 6 (routed through Push's audio interface) instantly

Play Push's pads ... hear the Super 6 but there's a significant delay X

What gives? It can't be an audio latency issue because when playing the Super 6 directly it's instant.

Also, if I don't route the Super 6 audio through Push, instead through my UA Apollo. Same behaviour. So, again, not Push audio related.

There seems to be some delay between pressing pads and Super 6 receiving MIDI ... ?

Tried with another external synth, same. Tried on normal MIDI track. Same.

Thoughts?

Edit:

No delay using it in controller mode. Eg - play pads - Live 12 - MIDI track - MIDI to Super 6

No delay from sequencer

It's gone!

... random bug ... ? ... but I'm SO sure I did a power cycle more than once.

Perhaps not.

Hmm, the only time this has happened to me is when the push has already been on for about an hour - at that point it’s a known bug that external midi gets laggy.

It has been fixed in the latest beta I believe (if you go in the beta forums, a lot of people, myself included, kicked off about it big time, and the head developer himself has acknowledged/confirmed fix).

In the meantime, if you’re not on the beta (I’m not):

- turning off WiFi on the push apparently fixes it for some people, as confirmed by the head developer (haven’t tried myself)

- switching off/on fixes it (until another 30-60 mins passes, then the lab may crop up again)

Annoying problem for us external synth users, but v happy it has been identified and fixed in beta

Ah great, thanks 🙏. Yeah it could easily have been on for an hour before I started testing.

I’m one or two beta releases behind, I think. Will update.

Yes please report this on Centercode since you’re running the beta.
