Ableton Move
Re: Ableton Move
People examined the Move trademark application, which makes it sound hardware-only, but if you also check the older Operator's trademark application, it has the same International Classifications numbers (15 and 09).

New teaser today...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8D9PO5 ... el=Ableton
Looks a lot like the icons/screen on the Arturia Minifreak. Definitely looks like a small/portable all in one kind of device IMO. I don't think I personally will be interested if is so small that it has a worse screen than a standard cell phone, but still curious to follow along.

Re: Ableton Move
I get the impression that the music for the teaser was made with it. Maybe a teenage engineering style hardware. If the form factor is unique that is one thing… though that’d be a challenge to find some kind of innovation.
Otherwise, I think my enthusiasm is probably not too high, unless the price point is super good for what it offers I guess.

It's hardware. This info has been up for a short while, pointing to https://www.ableton.com/de/move-push/

Re: Ableton Move
If it's hardware, this is most probably not for me. Productivity relies to a great extent on things not "moving" or being highly configurable, but rather knowing in which chest you find your tools. As a worst-case example of where near-infinite flexibility leads to, take Linux. Of course, there are these guys who are proud of being able to control everything by their keyboard. But in fact they wonder why nobody wants to play with them. Graphical user interfaces have been highly optimized during (at least) the last 30 years or so. This paradigm will not be overcome by returning to the old-time pot and slider era, just as it wasn't vinyl which overcame the compact disc, but streaming was.
Actually, it is a distinctly non-trivial task to design a man-machine interface that is so intuitive as to have no significant learning curve. There have been many failed attempts and only a few successful ones.

Re: Ableton Move
Some of the icons in this video are also used in Note. This leads me to believe that this is a hardware version of Note, hopefully with a few extra features. A step sequencer would be nice. It makes since that they would decide to make a hardware version of Note. A lot of people (myself included) prefer Android to iOS and were requesting from Ableton an Android version of Note. Move will make Ableton's mobile music making available to a wider audience. If Move combines features of Note, Push, and the Elektron grooveboxes into a portable package, I'm sold. Even better would be if it's possible to load Ableton sample packs into Move.Matt_Quinn wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2024 11:09 amNew teaser today...

Re: Ableton Move
The One thing that might make this a must purchase for me would be Ableton Link support; especially if it was at a lower price point. This is a big frustration for me with most hardware options. I like jamming and improvising. The midi clock and CV options aren’t as beautiful in implementation as Link. Link is huge for me.

I said that in the other thread on Wednesday, and got shot down. I was only relaying popular opinions from elsewhere too...autodidackt wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2024 3:18 pmThis leads me to believe that this is a hardware version of Note

Re: Ableton Move
yo, talk about confirmation bias. You literally claim on the roli video that it's Ableton move. Not a question, a statement. And then when Roli replies "wait and see", you interpret that as validation for being right. They could just be offering audience engagement. And it's not like there is an overwhelming number of commentators. Any of them statistically speaking could get a few likes. And the graphic looks nothing like move nor the Ableton session/arrangement graphic.
I love your gumption, and it's totally in the spirit of speculation, but I do not share your confidence, determination, nor your conclusion. But it's fun, and I'm happy you're here.

I sure hope that extended list of 3rd party retailers is true.Tuur wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2024 1:16 pmIt's hardware. This info has been up for a short while, pointing to https://www.ableton.com/de/move-push/

Re: Ableton Move
Hope it can import Gen and RNBO like Mod Devices, Electrosmith Daisy, Eventide H9000, etc. (besides also importing Drift presets, etc.).
I wonder if they also managed to make it upgradeable like Push 3 (seems very hard to do with smaller gear).

Re: Ableton Move
The page only referenced the Push upgrade.
A small, portable device seems like a good guess. Might be why they did Note. Testing the waters.
