Loading custom drum racks

Post by wascal » Tue Oct 08, 2024 1:26 pm

Will it be possible to load your own drum racks?

If so, is there a maximum file size per pad and what is the maximum polyphony?

The idea of having 16 * 4 or 8 bar loops mapped across a drum rack and using a single channel to sequence 16 channels of pre-bounced audio behind the other 3 Move instruments seems pretty powerful, just don’t want to get my hopes up for something impossible before putting in a pre order :)

Yes. You can either built them on Move using the builtin samples or samples you imported via the Move Manager; or build them in Live and then export the presets (with samples) to Move.
The polyphony is 8 voices per track.

Thanks - and could you set all 4 tracks to use Drum Racks?

Ok 32 individual stems at once from a pool of 64 sounds pretty promising :)

While you’re here:

1. What’s the maximum pattern length

2. What’s the minimum bpm

3. Can each track have different lengths

4. Is preset choice fixed for an entire ‘song’ or can it change per clip?

Just trying to see how far you could take the idea :)

1. I don't remember ever running out of length. I don't think there's any but I'll have to check.
2. Just like in Live: 20bpm
3. Yes
4. 1 track = 1 preset, just like in Live. But you can automate every parameter indeed (and you can even bypass automations individually - something that's not possible in Live)

Thanks!

8 clips per channel doesn’t seem that restrictive if one of them is a 256 bar beast with 16 pre-bounced stems laid out on it.

Cheers for the swift replies, think I’ll give it a try once it’s out :)

Imo the 8 clips limit is not a problem. If you think about most song's structure, you have less than 8 parts.

Generally speaking I've been enjoying a lot the whole set of limitations Move "offers". It really is beneficial imo, it makes creating music on the device incredibly fast.
If art is all about playing with limitations, Move definitely proves it in a beautiful way.
Less is more, less is Move

Yeah true. I’m already plotting how to use it for the completely incorrect use case and squeeze an hour’s live PA out of a single ‘song’ 😂

I have a similar question - seems like lots of people are trying to work out if this can fit their specific uses, notn eccessarily the way it was intended!

What I want to do:
* make a drum / instrument rack in Live - mostly one shots
* transfer this whole rack to Move
* launch the one-shots on the Move stand-alone, with effects etc

Can you move full racks like this? And will all parameters like clip position, transpose, volume etc carry across to the Move?
I know you can add individual samples via Move manager - but this is tedious and not how I would like to work.

Thanks!

Yes you can create a Drum Rack in Live and then export it Move.
The preset needs to respect the Move's preset structure, i.e a Drum Rack within a rack, using Drum Sampler, you can only use the audio FX devices available on Move etc...
A quick way to do it is to open a Move preset in Live, swap samples and/or FX, tweak parameters to your taste and export to Move via the Move Manager.

Does this only work in Live 12? I just got Move and wondering if I also should upgrade from Live 10 while the sale is on. I'll test it on the weekend.

L11 support's Move as a Control Surface. I never tried or can't remember exporting a preset made in L11 though so I'll have to check this.
I would be surprise you can do anything with L10 though.
The sales are quite awesome this year, I'd highly encourage you to go for L12 you won't regret it (just make sure to check your computer specs beforehand, especially if you're on Windows).
