Do you use the Horizontal Arrangement mixer?
Do you use the Horizontal Arrangement mixer?
Ableton obviously went to a great deal of trouble to add this new horizontal mixer in Live 12's Arrangement view.
I'm curious how many people have integrated it into their daily workflow?

I've been wondering this too!
It's been requested for ages, but is it really helpful?

Re: Do you use the Horizontal Arrangement mixer?
Especially as we lost some functionality from the "main" mixer to service this new Arrangement mixer (the visual toggles for the headers, in/outs, etc. and a few of the shortcuts went too)
As a person who never uses the horizontal arrangement mixer that was a bit of a blow to have my workflow slowed down to service this quite weird thing!
For me, vertical space is a premium in arrangement, so if I used that horizontal mixer I'd only be able to see about 3 tracks of the song I'm working on. Whereas if I use a separate screen for the mix I can see all the arrangement. I assumed that some people must actually use that horizontal mixer, but I was surprised that Live 12.1 still hasnt brought back the full functionality of the mixer in L11.x
Re: Do you use the Horizontal Arrangement mixer?
i rather have horizontal scroll(wheel) acccess on the fx panel

Re: Do you use the Horizontal Arrangement mixer?
I have found it very help full for mixing/editing.
I tend to work on pieces that are over 20 minutes long with typically no more than 16 tracks. I can understand why the 200 track projects would need the mixer on a seperate screen.
Most of my mixing is done with automation of the Utility effect and I like being able see the meters on each track while seeing the track contents itself.
Drawing in effect send automation while seeing the mixer knobs helps me too.
I am in session view while recording. Don't need to see the tracks scroll by while I'm playing.
On the other hand I used Live for years without it. Pressing the tab key isn't a super horrible thing to do.

Re: Do you use the Horizontal Arrangement mixer?
My home studio has two monitors. I'm 100% sold on Live's fantastic dual monitor integration. I know I'm a constant critic but Ableton knocked it out of the park with the way they set this up, absolutely the best user interface for multiple monitors out there. Because of this and the fact I don't use 4k settings, I haven't ever used the horizontal arrangement mixer, it's not how I work at all.

Re: Do you use the Horizontal Arrangement mixer?
not the faders/meters, but I do keep the effects sends and cpu metering on.
Re: Do you use the Horizontal Arrangement mixer?
I just realized I thought you were actually talking about the new vertical mixer view.
I always mix up horizontal/vertical if I don't take a second to think about it... looks like I'm not alone though

Surprisingly, I do use it quite often !

Re: Do you use the Horizontal Arrangement mixer?
Vertical mixer?? Surely this is horizontal !

notice how I can only edit 2 tracks of the arrangement. And the faders are set to their shortest throw length, which is just very unusable. It just seems a really ineffective use of space.
meanwhile...

Re: Do you use the Horizontal Arrangement mixer?
Nope. I tried it, but didn't like it as I lose too much screen estate to it. I am more than happy to use tab to get to the 'session' view with the faders stretched out to a bigger size. Indeed, I never use the session view as a session view. It is simply my mixer, sends, and VST view
What I don't like about the new mixer layout is that horrible orange 'Keep Latency' button. It's not even symmetrically placed on my preferred channel width. Thankfully you can remove the button from the view but then you lose the track delay settings.

Re: Do you use the Horizontal Arrangement mixer?
How interesting it is, the way we interpret things differently. I see it as vertical because faders are vertical, as opposed to the legacy horizontal ones on the right of the Arrangement.

You mean right I assume? IMO like someone pointed out above with visuals unless you have a massive screen it's cluttered AF.

Typo corrected.

It’s useful ‘at a glance’. For example if you’re tracking and want to see other vox in a vocal stack or need to mute various elements without losing focus on the incoming audio
