What are the demo sets in Move like?
What are the demo sets in Move like?
What are the demo sets like in Move and what can you do with them? I am assuming they exist, I've heard discussions that suggest they do. I am a struggling beginner and the two demo sets in Ableton Live are a constant source of reassurance. I am especially intrigued by the possibility of importing them into Live to use as yet another and maybe simpler set of demos. I think I understand that such sets could not be returned to Move under any circumstance.
Re: What are the demo sets in Move like?
No offence on BNYX. I am sure he's otherwise a skilled producer and songwriter but to me the Move Demo Sets sound incredibly bad.
They tend to be incredibly short with no interesting variations or buildups/breakdowns whatsoever per Scene and sound pretty bad and "amateurish" to begin with. The rare Sets that have more than two almost identical Scenes have weird placeholder Scenes that are literally copies of previous ones.
It honestly sounds like BNYX got some money to promote the device but literally just spent 20 minutes on the thing and randomly noodled around with it a bit without even really knowing what he's doing. The Demo Sets are definitely not a good showcase of what Move is capable of.

Re: What are the demo sets in Move like?
That's real disappointing to hear. I am really impressed by the two demos available for Ableton Live Lite and they have both been instrumental in inspiring me to try harder to understand and apply Ableton Live. Not only that, but they are good listening too. I have spent many happy moments listening to them over and over again.
I also own a Novation Circuits which I would like to compare with this Ableton Move. Novation Circuits has an extensive collection of factory installed demo tracks which are excellent and make good listening as well as inspiration and source of practice.
The demo tracks on Ableton Live and Novation Circuits make me wonder if these composition devices might be a way to consume commercially composed music. There are people out there selling demo tracks for Ableton Live, but there is no way to find out what they sound like.

Honestly wouldn't get hung up on the sets included with it, there'll be plenty more down the road, Circuitesque I'm sure...

Re: What are the demo sets in Move like?
One of the worst I ever heard, frankly.
Musically dull, sonically uninspiring, stylistically uniform.
They're all using multiple scenes but there's hardly any difference between them.
If I was to make my decision to buy Move or not based on the demos - I definitely wouldn't get it. Luckily I did.

Luckily you did get it? If you did get it, are you otherwise happy with it?antic604 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 11:38 amOne of the worst I ever heard, frankly.

Well, for starters, I feel like I made some loops that sound better than the demo tracks after like 2 or 3 hours noodling with it. The presets and workflow and everything else about the device are actually great.PaulAble wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 4:39 pmLuckily you did get it? OK, thanks.

Hi Paul. Great to hear that the demo sets are useful for you. Which demo sets exactly in Live are you referring to?
Product Owner at Ableton
Re: What are the demo sets in Move like?
There are only two that I know of. In the latest version of Live Lite, the latest can be accessed from the Help menu. I managed to keep the older demo as it appeared in my older version of Lite.
I have seen instructions for finding them on ones computer I found from searching Google, but the file systems they refer to do not appear to exist in my Windows 10.

Re: What are the demo sets in Move like?
Yes, it's definitely a capable little machine. It appears to be designed as a sketchpad, to realize maybe ~20% of the full project and ideally made for "beats" type of music, but with other genres - like electronic stuff: techno, dub, d&b, etc. - you can actually get closer to 50-60% with some effort. I hope that over time they'll add features making such workflow easier (e.g. saving track presets together with clips, silent resampling of single sounds or clips, ability to extract MPE Pitchbend into actual MIDI Pitch data in Live, etc.), but already it is pretty good. I'd say that in terms of bang-for-the-buck Move is very impressive - some grooveboxes offer more tracks or FX, but they don't have continuity with a proper, full-blown DAW.PaulAble wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 4:39 pmLuckily you did get it?
