Hello Ableton community,
I'm experiencing a delay in microphone latency and could use some guidance on configuring my audio settings in Ableton Live.
Some key details:
- **Driver Type:** MME/DirectX
- **Audio Input Device:** Focusrite USB Audio
- **Audio Output Device:** Main (MG-XU) DX
- **Sample Rate:** 48000 Hz
- **Input Buffer Size:** 8192 Samples
- **Output Buffer Size:** 4096 Samples
- **Overall Latency:** 256 ms
Despite adjusting some buffer settings, I'm still facing noticeable latency during input, particularly when recording vocals with a microphone when listening back on monitor mode. As I have tried to adjust the latency balance, it does start to make crackle noises when audio signals are coming through if change it.
I would really appreciate any advice on how to reduce the latency or optimize my current setup. Should I consider switching drivers or adjusting the sample rate, buffer sizes, or any other settings?
Thank you in advance!

You should start with installing the Focusrite drivers. If your latency is any more than about 10ms you’ll definitely hear it. Those buffer sizes are huge. You need to be in the ballpark of 128 or 256… 512 is likely too high for a Scarlett (for vocals), but I haven’t had my hands on one in a few years

Thanks for your input.
I tried this but still had issues so I switched to ASIO which solved the latency.
Thanks again.
