Live 12.1

Post by Fury » Thu Oct 24, 2024 5:17 pm

Live 12.1 is unusable! I get my work to load once in every seven or eight attempts. Can someone at Ableton assure this long-term user and supporter of Ableton you are working 24/7 to fix this problem. I know I am not the only user who is unable to use the update. My work as a songwriter depends on being able to use your product.

Any idea of something more specific that is happening?
Could it be plugins related?

What machine are you using it on ?
Intel one by any chance ?
It seems there is some issues on Intel machines.
And yes, as Chapelier fou said, it may be fixed in the last beta...

(I didn't update yet and I'm still running the 12.0.25 version on a Mac M1 pro and an old Intel 2012 MBP, so I can't contribute about the way the new 12.1 is working)

Ableton crashes for me (with an existing track open) when powering up my Push 3.
I am on a M2 Max / Mac Studio.

I have narrowed my issues to Push 3 by doing a reset and unplugging all other devices.

Communication with support is ongoing.

I have the same situation, most of my project won't load, everytime I try to open some project Ableton crashes. And what it's funny is that I can extract all instruments to a new project from the one that I can't open without any crash, everything works then, then save it to a new file and when I try to reopen it, it crashes too then.
I was able to isolate one of the failing plugins, which is Soothe2, which shouldn't happen as this is well known plugin. I think there might be more plugins like this.
I tried newest beta L12.1.5b2, but it's not fixed there. I've sent that info to Support a couple days ago with Crash Report, so far no response.
I'm using Window 10 Home and AMD Ryzen 9 5900X.
Of course everything worked fine before the update to 12.1.

I'm having daily Application Not Responding crashes on loading the application, hung up by the plugin scanning it seems. I'm running OSX 14.6.1 on a M3 Max with 48GB memory. This should be plenty of power to run Live.

If it's due to plugins scanning, then the machine's power isn't of any help.
There's known issues with the scanning process. Would be great if you could report to Support, mentioning which plugins might be involved if you have some clues.

I have the same problem on Win 10. It appears to be related not to plugin scanning (although the status bar shows Scanning Plugins) but the media library scans. On every startup it wants to rescan 1+ million MIDI files I have and the main process just hangs. It doesn't look like this was tested with such size libraries, unfortunately.

I noticed 12.1.5b2 runs really well for me where 12.1 was crashing some, this is non scientific and maybe you will have different results. Also, I deleted the DB and preferences and did a re-scan

M1 and only use VST3, AU and VST2 are not checked in settings.

Yes, after removing Live's database newest beta 12.1.5b2 runs almost fine, I still only have issues with Soothe2, both vst3 and vst2 versions crash Live while loading project.
