Help with Audio Routing for VoiceMod, Ableton, and Focusrite Using ASIO4ALL and VoiceMeeter

Post by nowstanding » Thu Oct 24, 2024 8:25 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to set up an audio routing configuration involving **VoiceMod**, **Ableton**, and my **Focusrite Scarlett** interface using **ASIO4ALL** and potentially **VoiceMeeter Banana** to manage the routing. My goal is to use **Focusrite Scarlett** for my microphone in **Ableton** while also routing **VoiceMod's soundboard** into **Ableton** for processing, without latency issues. Ideally, I want **VoiceMod** to be on a separate channel from my mic recording for easier mixing.

### My Current Setup:
- **Focusrite Scarlett 2i2** as my main audio interface.
- **VoiceMod** for voice effects and soundboard, which I'd like to send to Ableton.
- **Ableton Live** as my DAW, where I need low-latency audio processing.
- **ASIO4ALL** to handle low-latency input and output in Ableton.
- I've also tried using **VoiceMeeter Banana** for virtual audio routing.

### The Problem:
When using **ASIO4ALL** in Ableton to route the **Focusrite Scarlett** for low-latency monitoring, I’m unable to get **VoiceMod** working at the same time. VoiceMod shows an error saying "Can't create input" when I try to select the **Focusrite** as the input/output device. Additionally, I am not getting any **virtual audio output** from **VoiceMod** via **Focusrite** in Ableton, and I don't see **VoiceMod** as a virtual input/output option in Ableton.

I've tried the following:
1. **Disabling exclusive control** in Windows Sound Settings for both input and output devices.
2. **Using ASIO4ALL** to activate multiple devices (Focusrite for Ableton, VoiceMod for soundboard), but they can’t work simultaneously—ASIO4ALL seems to take exclusive control over the devices, which blocks VoiceMod from using the same interface.
3. Switching **VoiceMod** to use **WDM/MME** drivers, but the issue persists when ASIO4ALL is enabled.
4. **Installed VoiceMeeter Banana**, setting it as the main virtual device for input and output, but VoiceMod still doesn't seem to route correctly or communicate with Ableton.
5. I’ve made sure to disable conflicting devices in **ASIO4ALL** and VoiceMod temporarily to avoid any direct device clashes, but I still can’t get both applications (Ableton and VoiceMod) to access the devices at the same time.

### What I’m Trying to Accomplish:
- Route my **Focusrite mic** into **Ableton** via **ASIO4ALL** for low-latency monitoring and recording.
- Send **VoiceMod’s soundboard audio** into Ableton for additional processing (with minimal latency if possible).
- Keep **VoiceMod** on a separate channel from my **mic recording** for easier control and mixing.
- Resolve the "Can't create input" error in VoiceMod.
- Ideally, find a way to get virtual audio output from **VoiceMod** through **Focusrite** to Ableton without conflicts.

Any help would be appreciated, whether it’s solving the **ASIO4ALL/VoiceMod** conflict or suggesting a better alternative routing setup. I feel like I'm close but need to solve this last hurdle.

Thanks for your help!

It has been awhile since I used a 4i4 on windows but my memory says, there is an ASIO driver from Focusrite. I never played around with ASIOforALL.
