Compute Module 5

Post by timerickson » Wed Nov 27, 2024 11:54 am

It's known that the Ableton Move is built around the Pi Compute Module 4.
As of today's release of the Pi Compute Module 5, and it appears to be a drop-in replacement for the CM4, what future does the Move hold for upgrades?
How soon can we expect a Move Plus or something with greater functionality? More than 4 tracks? More effects/instruments?
Or will Ableton pretend the CM5 doesnt exist and we suffer for years on this outdated CM4 platform?

Indeed, the CM5 with its much faster CPU is tempting, but I guess those compute modules have extensive product lifespan. Korg even used compute module 3 for their wavestate/opsix synths.

I am optimistic for Abletons move onto Linux, would love to see a Push2 upgraded to a stand-alone with the power of a RasPi5 :D

I guess there is a lot of room for mind-boggling features, I couldn’t get my move overheated.
Also the existence of a Raspberry Pi CM4 with 8 gigs of Ram comforts me a lot.
