I hate it, hate it, hate it! Ableton seem to be replying to people, on youtube especially, and saying "you just don't understand it!" No I do understand it. The system is just awful, in my opinion. The Live 11 Browser was great... why change??? At least if making such a massive and crippling change... give users who don't understand or don't like it the option of reverting. Saying people "just don't understand it" is shifting the blame, gaslighting... if users don't understand a new feature in software, especially if it's one they must adapt to in order to use the new software... then that still is a problem that the developers are responsible for.
And here's the reason why it's so bad. The browser is no longer a browser, it's a search tool. You can save searches but at the end of the day those searches just constrict your vision of your entire library. You have to tell it what you want or face a list of 1000s of entries of instruments, effects and presets all jumbled up together. You have to target it at what you want. So you exclude the things you don't want or forget about. Suddenly people have to spend hours or days or weeks, organizing their collections again just to find stuff that was always previously there and sorted into device > preset categories > preset types.
It was a simple, easy to understand format, and here's the thing... that old browser had the search function anyway! So people that wanted to could search for stuff.
Don't point me at YT tutorial videos, I have already watched them. It's not that I don't understand the new system, it's that it's absolutely terrible and should have, at best, been optional. What's that? Creates too much work to maintain two versions of the browser? Well don't ruddy change something that wasn't broken then. Besides which, the A11 browser isn't some new feature you would have to make from scratch, the code for it surely can just be ported over into the new program and toggled under a button.
Unless there is some way to get the browser back to EXACTLY the way it was in Live 11... i'll be sticking with Live 11. Even if it comes back in Live 13, it'll be an incredibly industrious ask to make me pay for a feature that was taken out then re-added (other features notwithstanding).
Note: If you like the change, I am happy for you, but I don't need people to say I dont understand it. I do, it's just bad.
Live 12 Browser - How to revert?
Re: Live 12 Browser - How to revert?
You can't.How to revert?
Now look who is gaslighting.Ableton seem to be replying to people, on youtube especially, and saying "you just don't understand it!" ... shifting the blame, gaslighting ...
I'm sure Ableton didn't say such things, but prove me wrong.
User demand. A better browser, including tagging, was very high on the list of feature requests.Live 11 Browser was great... why change?
It is, of course, still both. Things are represented differently in certain areas, and there are additional tools. You can search using those tools or just by keywords, similar to previous versions.browser is no longer a browser, it's a search tool.
But you didn't, so why are you complaining on behalf of others?Suddenly people have to spend hours or days or weeks, organizing their collections again
Collections are still the same, by the way. Using the tagging system is not mandatory.
In what version of the trial did you test the browser?i'll be sticking with Live 11
Many things improved in later versions.
Anyway, it would be more beneficial if you mentioned your specific dislikes rather than just ranting.
Re: Live 12 Browser - How to revert?
you can still add work folders at the bottom of the bar and navigate through folders this way if you want. I think you can also tag entire folders. I was a bit lost at first too but I'm so far liking the new system, I relied mostly on the color coded tags already anyway in live 11. You can still access all your audio files by folders.

Re: Live 12 Browser - How to revert?
Many other people including myself hate the new browser but all you can expect here is unfriendly answers by mostly the same three or four people. It should be possible for Ableton to give users an option to revert to the old browser without search tags and all that cluttery mess but they won't I guess.
I really like Ableton 12 for it's new features but the browser is really a bitter pill to many.
