Push 3 Noise in headphones with nothing on

Use higher impedance headphones (80Ohm and higher should have much less noise) or try better power adapter. I doubt they can fix it easily, as it's a hardware issue I think.

I have a pair of AKG K702's which are rated at 62Ω and don't suffer too much noise floor with the Push 3. The trouble is my ears heat up & creativity drops through the floor, hence I prefer IEM's for creative work, but you'll really struggle to find IEMs with anything near 80Ω impedance.

Were you quoting Ableton with this? I presume it's actually sensitivity rather than impedance that's the important thing here, but again finding decent quality (for mixing) low sensitivity IEMs isn't easy.

Has anyone had an update on this? My Push suffers from this. Is is basically that every Push does or are there batches that are broken? I have two pairs of headphones - Audio Technica where the sound is obvious and Audeze LCD where it isn’t.
I assume the problem is hardware related and largely unfixable but curious to hear what Ableton have actually said.

I’ve not submitted a support ticket yet but may do. I do find it super irritating.

Support didn't mention this, but I am interested in whether headphones with low ohms, like the Audio Technica M50x which are 38 I believe, could be the problem.

The headphone output impedance on the Push 3 is 10Ohm. If it's just a matter of using a higher impedance headphone, then maybe it's not a hardware issue at all. Maybe that's why one pair had the noise and one pair didn't.

I got a reply the other day from support. They gave me the following checklist. However, for me this hasn’t eliminated the noise. My main issue is the noise is there constantly, regardless of power supply or if it’s in control or standalone. It’s louder when the power supply is connected, but still there quietly when running on battery.

Here’s the checklist anyway, maybe someone else has better luck:

On Push
Connect the Push 3 power adaptor to a different socket, power strip, etc.
Connect the Push 3 power supply to a socket on its own (where no other devices are connected).
Connect the AC adaptor of your MacBook to a different socket in a separate room, house, etc.

On your Mac
Connect the MacBook AC adaptor to a socket on its own (where no other devices are connected simultaneously).
Ensure you are not using any adaptor with the AC power supply.
Run your MacBook on battery and without the power supply connected.

Periphery
Disconnect any other devices from the MacBook (e.g. your audio interface).
Use Push and your computer in a different room.
Try using a different USB cable for the connection.
Remove any USB hubs (powered) if possible.
Test with a different model of headphones.

I think the problem depends on headphone sensitivity. I tried the Push 3 with four headphones and got a noise with headphones which have higher sensitivity.
For example:
111dB, 109dB - have noise.
103dB, 104dB - don't have noise.

Yep, just bought the standalone Push3 and am getting this issue.

I've gone through the checklist posted in this thread and still get the noise. I thought it was the power unit, but noticed that it stopped briefly at a certain point when installing one of the packs! This points to the issue being in the Push, not the power supply.

I'm so disappointed with this. I thought by now they would have sorted out the issues!

I'm quite sensitive to noise, so this is annoying, but I had worse so I'll be keeping it for now, it's to great of a device otherwise.

I've done a few tests already (Everything in Standalone mode with no connections except power and headphones or main out):

- Push 3 Power supply
- Macbook Pro 140W USB C Power supply
- Different rooms

These files were recorded using a Zoom Recorder, the first 25s directly from the headphone out, the rest from the main out. There are some additional notes for reference.

Those are boosted quite a bit, headphones directly to Push seem to behave differently, probably due to the impedance. It's way more noticeable on my Sennheiser HD 280 Pro. I forgot to do a no-powersupply recording, but I feel it's still there when unplugged, just more quiet.

What caught my ear the most is the type of noise. It's not your usual constant 60Hz hum or a high frequency whine, it varies. Depending on the project file, the devices used it can vary from thick filtered noise, these pulsating sounds I've recorded or other wild stuff. Things like loading a project or turning the device off also causes a change in the sound.

And quite contrary to some earlier posts: lowering the buffer size to 32 made it even worse. The noise got a touch louder and harsher.


I'm trying to conduct more tests (power bank, power conditioning, different location) and haven't contacted support on this matter yet (my pad LEDs were various wonky shades of white tho lol which is kinda sorted).

Ableton sent me a replacement which is working perfectly. So it’s worth letting them know/sending it back.
