New Push 3 standalone missing menus

Post by Morceaux » Wed Dec 04, 2024 1:05 am

I just got a used Push 3 Standalone, and I can't get audio out of it. Even stranger, I think there are missing menu options.

In the setup page, The Wifi menu is completely missing. The last three options are Pedals & CV, Preferences, and Software. Also under 'software' there are no options to reset on the top right. 'legal info', 'crash info', and 'reset push' are not there. EDIT: pushing Shift doesn't show the advanced features in the software menu.

Firmware says 1.3.3

Any ideas what is going on?

Is it running L11 or L12?

I can see in some recent release notes that a hotspot feature was recently added, and the Wi-Fi controls moved to the status tab in set up. But going to the status tab, the only additional options in the top row or a button to start standalone mode and a button of toggle play sinc.

And a sidenote, while in that menu, pressing ‘start standalone mode’, asks me to confirm, then pressing the start button does nothing. It just goes back to the previous menu and stays in connected mode.

Something else to add- I found in another post the method of going into troubleshooting mode. Once it boots into that mode, I select ”start pushing recovery mode.”, but it just sits on the push logo in the middle of the screen.

Also, I am noticing in some other threads people discussing that when shutting down push, all you have to do is press the power button once and a shut down dialogue pops on the screen, asking you to confirm. Mine doesn’t do this either. The only way to shut down push is to hold the power button for about 10 seconds.

Download a recovery image of 1.2.15 or 2.1.1 here : https://www.ableton.com/en/download/archive/

Flash the firmware image to a USB device, put it in the usb-a port on the Push 3 and boot in 'troubleshooting mode'. Choose recovery and let it install the recovery firmware. That hopefully must solve your problems.

It downloaded a .wic file.

I converted a drive to EXFAT and dragged the file to the drive. Is that the proper way to do it? You mentioned flashing it to the drive, is there a utility to copy the .wic file as a disk image?

Yes, you need to DL and use BalenaEtcher.
The whole process is explained in this article.

Thanks for the link. I looked all over the site and somehow missed the 'recovery via USB flash drive' section.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, it did not. BalenaEtcher successfully burned the image. Connected. Booted into recovery menu, but starting the recovery process, the screen goes to the Push logo and freezes there.

At this point, I've decided to give up. I bought it used through Guitar Center, and they have a return policy. I'm sure they will reach out to Ableton directly to get assistance with fixing it.

On the bright side, I ordered another Push 3 direct from Ableton during the Black Friday sale. It arrives tomorrow.

Thanks for your help!

You're welcome.

btw....I did a recovery a while ago and had to put the recovery usb-stick in a powered usb hub that was connected to the usb-a of the Push 3. When I put it in the Push 3 itself it won't work.
