Tracks lose MIDI assignments
Tracks lose MIDI assignments
heyyyyyyyy there.
so, whenever a MIDI device is connected or disconnected from my computer, it greys out all MIDI device out and channel assignments and i have to reselect them. it's... VERY frustrating. it also does it when a device is connected or disconnected when Live isn't open, when i open Live and get a default set, all the MIDI outs and channels are greyed out. i've had hardware synths connected for years with Live, this is the first time this has happened. i don't know if it's to do with the latest update to 12, i have redone my synth area, but it's the same type of setup i've always used, just a few new synths swapped for olds.
i'm using Live 12 on a Windows 10 computer.
connected synths are Novation AFX Station, Elektron Digitone II, Polyend Synth, Polyend Play and an OXI One controller through one USB hub. a separate hub has an Arturia KeyLab 61 and a Push 3 going into it.
all are going out MIDI over USB.
i have tried removing the Digitone from the hub and running it straight into a USB port on my desktop, same thing happens to it's MIDI routings when any other device is turned on or off, turning the Digi on or off triggers the same problem.
i've used these hubs for at least two years and never had a problem, with the Digi still triggering/receiving loss, it doesn't seem to be the hubs. plugging everything straight into the computer isn't viable anyways, don't have the open ports and the physical requirements make hubs the only option.
any ideas? i have contacted support, but you know. apes together STRONG.
thanks!

ugh. on the one hand it's good that it's not just me, on the other it sounds like you have tried everything i can think of and was too lazy to do and still have the problem. i feel like it's something in this most recent Live update? never had this problem before.
and i've tried with and I without (i use powered hubs of course) hubs, keeps happening.
sorry you're dealing with it as well.

Re: Tracks lose MIDI assignments
it's really weird because i even downgraded all the way to 11 with the same problem. I was able to get a consistent startup at least so im not having to reset everything every time, but yeah if something drops out then it just messes everything up and even saves it with the project file after you fix.

Re: Tracks lose MIDI assignments
hurm. what version of Windows are you running? or are you on Mac? i just do the updates occasionally, staying on 10. not sure if something in there made things go sideways, but yeah. it's so time consuming and frustrating to be mid working on something and have to stop to reset all the destinations.
Re: Tracks lose MIDI assignments
also, just tried going into Power Management in Device Manager like someone suggested in one of your posts, turned off Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power on all my USB devices, launched a session with all devices turned on, set all the assignments, turned off Push, it severed the assignments.
my mouse went into a busy wheel symbol for a second before everything greyed out, it feels like there's some type of message being sent to Live or the Windows system when a device is turned on or off. i haven't dived into the minutia of Windows OS management in decades, not really up for that.

Re: Tracks lose MIDI assignments
I've been a Live user since v9. I started experiencing the same after an update to v12. I also use a hub but powering it does not help. It's connected to U6MIDI Pro and two Arturia MIDI controllers. At first I thought it was related to multiple MIDI signals but even when connecting a single controller it does the same.
I am a developer and while I don't program at the OS level it's obvious that Live is listening for device changes from Windows. If you have the Device Manager window open and cycle a device you will notice it refreshes the list. I opened the Live log and see the following entries when this occurs.
After powering on mk2:
2024-12-08T17:03:56.402396: info: MidiDeviceManager: Start CloseAllActivatedDevices
2024-12-08T17:03:56.439494: info: MidiDeviceManager: End CloseAllActivatedDevices

2024-12-08T17:03:56.736277: info: AMidiIO: Midi Remote Scripts:

MidiRemoteScript 2 [Control Surface="KeyLab_Essential_mk3" Input="KL Essential 88 mk3 MIDI" Output="KL Essential 88 mk3 MIDI"]

MidiRemoteScript 2 [Control Surface="KeyLab_Essential_mk3" Input="KL Essential 88 mk3 MIDI" Output="KL Essential 88 mk3 MIDI"]
The ordering does not change but the close/open sequence suggests that it is removing them from Live.
I'm not sure if anyone did so but I will open a support ticket. Clearly something changed.

Re: Tracks lose MIDI assignments
this is great thanks. I have opened a support ticket (i suggest you do the same and link the threads as I have) but unfortunately i'm only getting 1st line support responses.SynthFan wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2024 10:14 pmI've been a Live user since v9. good they know it's going on? it's pretty annoying, but could be worse i guess.
