How do I make a big fat piano sound?
When I pull in an Ableton Instrument Grand Paino, add reverb and delay, it sounds good but, really small and thin.
I have added Dynamic Tube to boost output and add some drive, ad an EQ and boost the bass, but it still sounds like a small piano.
Same thing when I use Audio In a for a Yamaha MODX synth. It sounds good, but not the rich quality I expect.
I have 8" JBL studio monitors, that should be as good as it gets. Do I need more speakers?
What other effects or tricks do you use in Ableton 12 to get a big full sound.
Piano Sound is thin
Re: Piano Sound is thin
For a big piano sound try playing with some (or a lot of compression). Piano's are hard to get right. It is why there are so many sampled piano libraries out there.
Re: Piano Sound is thin
When I am playing live, I could add more force. My fingers ae probably a big part of the problem.
Is there any way to add more velocity in Ableton MIDI data.

Re: Piano Sound is thin
Velocity, OK that's the ticket. That may give me some options.
That is definitely worth experimenting with.
I am also going to try moving my monitors. Right now they are 6" off the floor under my desk.
I am going to move them out from under the desk, 6 feet from me. I may add a set of 5" monitors to fill out the sound.

MIDI Velocity made a huge difference, Thanks.
It appears that everything I click in is at medium velocity so there is a lot of room to change.
