Hey folks,
I'm getting into making a custom iPad controller for Live using OSC and Open Stage Control.
I already know how to control things in Live from the iPad with various OSC messages.
But how about doing it the other way around? Say i create 8 tracks in Live with various names and colors, is it somehow possible to pass these names and colors back to Open Stage Control so it give the faders the correct names and colors?
And even create as many track faders as i have in Live? So when i start a new project, i see 4 faders on the iPad. But as i add more tracks, these also appear as new faders on the iPad.
I really have no clue how to go about this. I don't need an XYZ explanation, just some general hints or links to tutorials would be great, then i can work it out myself.
Thanks!
Send Live OSC info to iPad (Open Stage Control)?
Re: Send Live OSC info to iPad (Open Stage Control)?
I have a bespoke iPad interface I use to control Live on stage with my laptop in clamshell mode.
First off, I assume you are doing this in M4L ? If so - make sure you go and get this external, the CNMAT OSC external https://cnmat.berkeley.edu/downloads
Because you are going to need to use the Live API to send the "names and colors back to the iPad". When you start trying to send names like "Kick Drum Channel" or "Song Five Intro Scene" to the iPad, without the CNMAT extension it will fail horribly because the OSC in M4L is actually only a subset, and won't do what you want.
I could give more in depth info but it might be off the mark for what you want.

Thanks for the info!

Until now i was just sending MIDI from OStageC to Live via LoopMIDI.
Although i sometimes use M4L devices, i have zero understanding about how Max integrates with Live.
I downloaded the CNMAT OSC as you suggested but i can't see any instructions about what to do with it.
I found this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGbV9fr3B7c
Although I'm on PC, i presume that the PC install is similar.
Which brings me to my first questions: i don't have any "Max" folder in my Program Files folder (as shown in the video).
Is that because i don't have the paid version of Max? I only have Live Suite. So can i still use CNMAT OSC?
If so, any idea how / where to install it to on PC?
Thanks!

Hi, I'm a bit xmasy today or I'd dig out an example file but yes you can use externals with M4L on pc. The external just needs to be in one of the paths which M4L usually looks for stuff. https://docs.cycling74.com/legacy/max5/ ... _path.html

I also found this, which is really appealing, because i could buy his controller, than reverse engineer it to understand how everything works:

Only downside is it also requires ClyphX Pro which is 67 euro, and also i totally don't understand what it (ClyphX Pro) is, and why you'd need it (i thought all the behind the scenes clever stuff was done by Max?!)
Do you have any thoughts on that approach?
