Can we use plugins from iCloud?

Post by FurkanTopal » Fri Dec 27, 2024 8:42 pm

Hey I'm kinda new to Mac and I was wondering if this is working that way, if I chose this Store in iCloud section, it says all my desktop and documents will be stored. In desktop I have tons of ableton projects and on documents, I have plugin folders. So if I choose to store, would I lose them? As I understand, it will be technically deleted from my macbook and they'll be stored in iCloud. (You can tell me if I'm wrong) But I'm not sure if it will affect badly my workflow. Did anybody do this before?

No, they would still need to be downloaded to run. Also be careful what you use iCloud for, usually it also keeps local copies on your HD. It's not like dropbox where you upload it to the cloud and it stays there and only there. iCloud is used a lot for syncing across devices, so you can end up in situations where you have documents stored and synced in the cloud, but there are also local copies on your laptop, iPad, iPhone, etc. iCloud just synchronizes any changes you make to all your other devices.

For instance I thought it would be good to keep copies of my MP3 library from my laptop stored in iCloud as a safety back up. But all that did was give me two versions of my MP3s, one in my music folder where they originally were, and one in the iCloud folder on my Mac too. It's not as straightforward as you might first think.
