Multiband Dynamics inconsistency – is this a bug?

Post by d9sus4 » Thu Jan 02, 2025 4:20 am

Hi people,

I recently discovered that Multiband Dynamics sometimes does not do compression/expansion consistently, even if the incoming signal is the same sample repeating itself.
To be specific, every time you disable the device and enable it back again (or simply wait enough time until there's no signal coming into the device), it'll react to the first couple of samples differently than the rest. I have recorded a detailed video demonstrating it: https://youtu.be/V8qYOIES3C8?si=EB3u_fXGL6MLVJUc
This bugs me a lot during sound designing. Have you guys experienced similar behaviors?

Did you try switching it to Peak instead of RMS?
Did you try different envelope settings?

Under Peak mode the behavior is the same, inconsistency of expansion gain still persists, though less noticeable.
Adjusting attack/release time does not really help either. A moderately long attack time (~50ms) still produces similar results.
