I am trying to record into Live via my audio interface which is a Behringer UMC202HD.
Using a Macbook pro running Big Sur 11.4. I've checked that Big Sur, Live 11 Standard and my processor type are all compatible.
The vinyl I'm trying to record is going through a Numark DJ Mixer then into the UMC202 through a brand new cable.
Direct monitoring on the UMC sounds clear.
When selecting my input device in preferences on Live the audio comes through fine for a few seconds and then suddenly turns into noise.
In my opinion this is unlikely to be an issue with the UMC202. It is also nothing to do with the vinyl - lack of pre amps or anything not being grounded. I have tested from an mp3 player into the DJ mixer and the same noise appears.
The UMC202HD is class compliant. I have never had to use drivers for it in the past.
My previous set up with no issues used the same external sound card recording into Logic pro 9 on an older operating system.
I have since had the operating system upgraded to Big Sur 11.4 and the hard drive replaced at the same time.
The replacement hard drive is a 480GB OWC flash drive and not the official 256GB drive that comes built in to Macbooks.
I believe something to do with this 'not official' hard drive is causing this noise issue but I am trying to work out what exactly and how I can fix it.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I can send a short video link showing the problem if anybody is interested.
Thank you

Pay attention to the red status bar messages.
Especially the one about available disk space.
The one about saving and exporting being deactivated is also important if you want to save your sampling.

Re: Simple audio recording from vinyl causing noise
Thank you for pointing this out - these messages are relevant if Live is running while unauthorised.
I have since activated the authorisation and the problem persists.
I have 145GB of space available and am just trying to record some songs, not start a project that contains lots of sampling etc.

Sample rate? Buffer size?

Re: Simple audio recording from vinyl causing noise
Changing sample rate or buffer size does not do anything but thank you replying.
I don't know enough about hard drives to suggest anything detailed but if there was some way of altering certain settings for it (after backing everything up) this might be the right sort of thing to try.
I've never had any sound problems with this mac before or after the replacement hard drive was installed.
Unless there's a specific setting related to routing the inputs and outputs within ableton I'm not sure what else it could be at the moment
