Manually enter midi CC# for macro control?

Post by Meta » Mon Jan 20, 2025 4:19 am

Hi all,

I have a DSI Pro2 that (according to the manual) will respond to generic midi CC#7 for volume and I'd like to automate it from Live 12.
However the volume knob won't transmit midi CC (I'm hoping it will respond).

Is there a way to manually map midi cc #7 to a macro control without having to move a external controller for it to pick up?

I've dropped a external instrument into a instrument rack and it looks like it'll work if I can get past this hurdle, and the Pro2 is set to respond to midi cc.

If you are using Ableton 12 then go to Library -> Midi Effects -> CC Control

Set the midi cc from the drop down menu of one of the custom knobs. You can then map that to a hardware controller. You can also add CC Control to an instrument rack and map a couple of the knobs to a macro of the instrument rack and shift the min/max value for it within the macro map settings on the left so that you can control multiple cc control knobs with the instrument rack macro within the given min/max values that you choose.

If you don't use Ableton 12 then you'll have to download a max4live device and add that device to an instrument rack. There are plenty of midi cc m4l devices for download on the website.

Thank you so much!!
I'd not seen that in 12 yet and it's incredibly helpful, my day just got much easier :D
