Expanding MIDI In Capabilities on Move

Post by mnkyby66 » Mon Jan 27, 2025 12:57 pm

For some reason, Ableton made the decision to limit the MIDI In commands (like MIDI CC, etc.) that the Move could receive and react to. Yes it works if you connect a “keyboard” controller device to it so you can play it. But what you can’t do is trigger it to do things like start/stop, etc. via another device. From the Move manual, “…monophonic aftertouch, MIDI CC, and MIDI mapping are not supported.”

Is there a feature request list for this? I have seen other devices expand their MIDI capabilities through updates (e.g., my Fender ToneMaster Pro underwent some significant MIDI changes 6 months after release - Fender was quite responsive to user requests here). Do we anticipate that Ableton will do the same?

My ultimate goal is to be able to trigger my Move via my Singular Sound Aeros looper. When I start recording on the looper, I want to trigger a track on the Move to start playing. When I stop recording on the Aeros, I want the Move to stop playing. Should be simple, if the Move can receive program and CC changes - which it currently can’t.

Would be nice to know if this might ever be a possibility on the Move side.

Thanks.

I very much concur we need at least some basic MIDI utility features!

I'm trying to run the MOVE while powering a Launchpad Pro mk3 off the MOVE's USB A output and am constantly running into the issue of the LP3 triggering sounds on the MOVE.

I'm successful at using MIDI Sync from the MOVE to control the tempo and start/stop of the rest of my mini jam setup composed of various volcas, airas and Sonic Ware Liven boxes.

But at least a basic way to filter out note messages on the input and output would improve things massively.
