Playback fails when using ASIO4ALL
Playback fails when using ASIO4ALL
I can record OK with ASIO4ALL as the audio device; but to play back a recording, I must switch to MME/DirectX. I would like to play back a recording without having to reconfigure the audio setup each time. In the audio setup, I have my system's "Realtek HD" as the output (works in all other apps) and "Focusrite" as the input. Can anyone lend me a hand?

Re: Playback fails when using ASIO4ALL
Why don't you use the ASIO driver from Focusrite?
ASIO4ALL is a last resort for devices that don't come with an ASIO driver.
Why are you using the internal Realtek soundcard when you have a Focusrite?
You can't expect too much from ASIO4LL and internal speakers.
But if you set it up right, it should playback audio over the internal soundcard.

Re: Playback fails when using ASIO4ALL
The Focusrite ASIO driver does not support playback through any sound system connected to the soundcard on your computer. This fact is seems to be well hidden, but I managed to confirm this in a session with a support tech at Focusrite. The only way to play back a recording with the Scarlett interface is to switch driver types, from ASIO to (in my case) MME/DirectX, or to connect another sound system--like a set of active speakers--to the Line Outputs on the interface.
The ASIO4ALL driver gives me crystal clear recordings on my PC, with buffer size of 64 samples (Input & output) for latency of 3.8ms...no dropouts. But again, playback requires reconfiguration of the drivers. Sigh! So it looks like I need to invest in a second sound system, just for the Focusrite, either that or record without monitoring.
You say, "if you set it up right, it should playback audio over the internal soundcard." Do you use a Focusrite audio interface without a dedicated sound system and are able to play what you record through a sound system connected to your computer? If so, pleeeeeeez share a screenshot of your settings.

I think your Focusrite is broken or damaged, normally they work like a charm......Djard wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 11:34 pmThe Focusrite ASIO driver does not support playback through any sound system connected to the soundcard on your computer. I use a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 3rd gen, and it is rocksolid!

Re: Playback fails when using ASIO4ALL
Yes of course when you're using an interface such as the Focusrite, the idea is to use it - for both input and output.
Connect your speakers to the output of the Focusrite. Dump ASIO4ALL.

That worked. Thanks.
